Full description
Fast Lane Transportation, a leader in the intermodal industry, is looking for Chassis Mechanics at its Wilmington, CA yard. The successful candidates will have mechanical knowledge of intermodal chassis.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned as required by supervisor

  • Repairs trailers, containers and chassis.
  • Performs routine maintenance and inspection. May include, inspecting and replacing lights, inspect and repair doors, clean rust and prep welding areas, replace mud flaps, inspect and replace crank handles, wash outs, etc.
  • Changes tires.
  • Grease equipment.
  • Perform container repairs.
  • Ensures electrical system is error free.
  • Assists with checking trailers, chassis and containers into and out of the yard utilizing a handheld device.
  • Utilizes computer tablet to document repair estimates, record damage, confirm repairs, etc.
  • Uses diagnostic tools to test vehicle components
  • Completes all work in a timely and consistent manner.
  • Strictly adhere to all safety rules and regulations.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
  • Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as safety glasses, hearing protection, welding leathers & goggles, steel toe safety boots, etc.

Qualifications:
• Minimum of 3 years prior chassis, trailer, and/or intermodal container repair experience,
• Strong work ethic.
• Deadline and detail oriented.
• Previous experience, formal or informal, as a mechanic or tradesperson.
• Basic computer knowledge, i.e., email creation, send and receive; create and save photos; etc.
• Basic knowledge of shop equipment.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Knowledge of electrical or other trades a plus.
• Welding experience a plus.
• Hostler (yard goat) experience a plus.
• Welding experience desired but not required.
• Ability to use computer and smart phone devices at an intermediate or higher level.
• Ability to work overtime and weekends when needed.
• Ability to work as part of a team.
• High School diploma or equivalent desired.

Work Environment:
• Physically demanding role including, but not limited to, lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, kneeling, reaching, climbing, and working in awkward positions for extended periods of time.
• Work may be performed out of doors and subject to environmental conditions including heat, cold, rain, wind, etc.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $24.00 - $32.00 per hour
