Can you make $100,000 as a welder?

Weld Systems Integrators is a role that involves specialized welding and systems integration skills. Earning $100,000 annually is possible for experienced welders working in high-demand industries, with certifications and advanced skills often leading to higher salaries. Factors such as location, industry, and level of experience influence earning potential in welding careers.

Is it wield or weld?

The correct term related to the job of Weld Systems Integrators is 'weld,' which refers to the process of joining materials, typically metals, using heat and pressure. Welders and weld systems integrators use specialized equipment and often require certifications to ensure safety and quality standards. 'Wield' is a different word meaning to hold or carry something, and it is not related to welding jobs.

What are Weld Systems Integrators?

Weld Systems Integrators are professionals or companies that design, assemble, and implement automated welding systems for manufacturing processes. They combine various components such as welding robots, fixtures, controls, and safety equipment to create efficient and reliable welding solutions tailored to specific production needs. Their expertise helps manufacturers improve quality, consistency, and productivity by automating the welding process. Weld Systems Integrators often work closely with clients to assess requirements, develop custom solutions, and provide ongoing support and maintenance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Weld Systems Integrator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Weld Systems Integrator, you need expertise in welding processes, robotics, automation, and a background in mechanical or electrical engineering. Familiarity with PLC programming, CAD software, and certification in welding or automation technologies are typically required. Strong problem-solving, project management, and communication skills help you collaborate with cross-functional teams and address technical challenges. These skills ensure seamless integration of welding systems, leading to efficient production and high-quality outputs in manufacturing environments.

What are some typical challenges Weld Systems Integrators face when coordinating projects with multiple departments?

Weld Systems Integrators often work closely with engineering, manufacturing, and quality assurance teams, which can present challenges in aligning project timelines and technical requirements. Effective communication and organization are essential to manage differing priorities, resolve technical issues, and ensure seamless integration of welding systems. Being proactive in identifying potential bottlenecks and fostering strong cross-departmental relationships can help overcome these challenges and contribute to successful project outcomes.

What is the meaning of the word weld?

In the context of Weld Systems Integrators, welding refers to the process of joining materials, typically metals or thermoplastics, by applying heat, pressure, or both. Welders use specialized tools and techniques to create strong, permanent bonds, often working in manufacturing or construction environments. Understanding welding processes is essential for system integration involving automated welding equipment or robotic welding systems.

What is welding?

Welding is a fabrication process used by Weld Systems Integrators and other professionals to join materials, typically metals or thermoplastics, by applying heat, pressure, or both. It requires knowledge of different welding techniques, such as MIG, TIG, or arc welding, and often involves certifications to ensure safety and quality in manufacturing or construction environments.

What is the difference between Weld Systems Integrators vs Welding Technicians?

AspectWeld Systems IntegratorsWelding Technicians
CredentialsTypically requires engineering or technical certifications, specialized training in automation and roboticsUsually holds welding certifications such as AWS or NCCER, with technical training in welding techniques
Work EnvironmentDesigning, programming, and installing automated welding systems in manufacturing or industrial settingsPerforming manual or semi-automated welding in workshops, factories, or construction sites
Employer & Industry UsageEmployers in manufacturing, automation, and industrial sectors focusing on system integrationEmployers in construction, fabrication shops, and maintenance in various industries

Weld Systems Integrators focus on designing and implementing automated welding systems, requiring technical and engineering skills. Welding Technicians perform hands-on welding tasks, often with certifications in welding techniques. While both roles are essential in manufacturing, Weld Systems Integrators work more on system setup and programming, whereas Welding Technicians focus on executing welding tasks.

Job description

Application close date:

Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed.

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We're working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

We are looking for someone to help stand up our new valve assembly and testing operations in our Thrusters Factory in Huntsville, AL. You will directly support every part of Blue Origin's New Glenn and Lunar architecture. This position requires strong attention to detail, as you will be helping to build laser welder processes for this group.

Special Mentions:

  • Relocation provided
  • A Shift: Monday-Thursday 5:00AM-3:30PM

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program, setup, and autonomously operate laser vacuum welding systems for precision joining of aerospace thruster components including combustion chambers, nozzles, and pressure vessels
  • Develop and optimize laser welding parameters (power, speed, focal position, pulse characteristics, beam manipulation) for various material combinations and joint configurations
  • Create and modify robotic welding programs including path planning, motion control, and process synchronization
