Job description

Welder / Metal Fabricator
Position Summary
The Welder / Metal Fabricator works primarily in the weld shop to manufacture metal components used in custom signage, décor, fixtures, and other project-related products. This position requires strong welding and fabrication skills, the ability to interpret engineered shop drawings, and a commitment to quality, accuracy, safety, and craftsmanship.
Commonly used equipment includes MIG welders, metal cutoff saws, liquid-cooled band saws, drill presses, handheld drills, plasma cutters, belt sanders, handheld grinders, and a variety of hand tools.
The Welder / Metal Fabricator is responsible for properly using and maintaining weld shop tools and equipment. This position also helps maintain appropriate inventory levels of commonly used steel, welding wire, gas, and other materials. Specialized materials may be ordered as needed in coordination with the appropriate team members.
The Welder / Metal Fabricator may occasionally assist other Manufacturing departments based on production needs. This position may also be required to support installation work and travel nationally to job sites approximately once per quarter. Travel assignments may last one to two weeks and may include varying schedules, extended hours, nights, or weekends depending on project requirements.
Qualifications
  • Prior welding and metal fabrication experience required
  • Ability to read and understand engineered shop drawings, measurements, and project specifications
  • Valid Utah driver's license and acceptable driving record
  • Current DOT medical card, or ability to obtain one after hiring
  • Working knowledge of welding, fabrication, and manufacturing tools and technology
  • Experience in manufacturing, construction, woodworking, or a related industry is preferred
  • Knowledge of metal types, fabrication methods, and material applications
  • Ability to prioritize work and complete assignments within established deadlines
  • Ability to accurately update project status and production information in the company's project management software
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment

Primary Responsibilities
  • Complete assigned welding and fabrication projects according to engineered drawings, specifications, timelines, and quality expectations
  • Perform MIG welding, cutting, grinding, drilling, sanding, fitting, and assembly tasks
  • Review drawings and project documentation before beginning work to confirm materials, measurements, and fabrication requirements
  • Identify questions, inconsistencies, or missing information before production begins
  • Maintain progressive knowledge of metals, fabrication methods, finishing processes, and material applications
  • Maintain inventory levels of commonly used steel, welding wire, gas, and weld shop supplies
  • Communicate material and resource needs to the Manufacturing Coordinator and/or Manufacturing Director
  • Order or assist with ordering specialized materials as required for assigned projects
  • Maintain accurate project tracking information in designated company systems
  • Update task status, project phases, comments, and other required production information
  • Ensure assigned work is completed accurately, safely, and within established timelines
  • Inspect completed work for quality, measurements, finish, structural integrity, and alignment with project requirements
  • Strive for precision, accuracy, and craftsmanship in all completed work
  • Make recommendations for project or process adjustments when improvements are needed
  • Assist with project planning by understanding partner needs and recommending appropriate materials or fabrication methods
  • Communicate questions, changes, production concerns, and potential delays to the Manufacturing Coordinator and/or Manufacturing Director
  • Maintain weld shop equipment and report repair, maintenance, or replacement needs
  • Keep the weld shop and surrounding work areas clean, organized, and free of unnecessary hazards
  • Properly store materials, tools, gas cylinders, and completed products
  • Assist other Manufacturing departments as production needs require
  • Support field installation work and national travel assignments approximately once per quarter
  • Attend departmental L10 meetings and other meetings related to assigned projects
  • Participate in company meetings, safety training, cross-training, and professional development
  • Provide verbal and written updates regarding assigned projects as requested
  • Continually develop welding, fabrication, manufacturing, communication, and leadership skills through experience, cross-training, and research
  • Follow all company procedures, safety requirements, and policies outlined in the Team Member Handbook

Safety and Work Environment
This position works around welding equipment, sparks, sharp materials, moving machinery, fumes, noise, and other hazards commonly found in a metal fabrication environment.
Team members are expected to follow all established safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment.
  • Hair must be secured or maintained in a manner that prevents contact with machinery, tools, sparks, or materials
  • Clothing must be appropriate for welding and fabrication work and must adequately protect the team member from sparks, heat, sharp materials, and other hazards
  • Safety footwear must protect the feet and be appropriate for welding and manufacturing work
  • Loose clothing, jewelry, and other items that may create a safety hazard are not permitted
  • Headwear may be restricted when it interferes with required safety equipment or creates a safety concern
  • Required personal protective equipment may include welding helmets, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, respirators, protective clothing, and other equipment based on the task being performed
  • The team member must follow all equipment-specific procedures, lockout/tagout requirements, ventilation requirements, and company safety protocols

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, climb, and work in varied positions for extended periods
  • Ability to safely lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment commonly used in metal fabrication
  • Ability to handle metal components, tools, and equipment safely and accurately
  • Ability to work in environments that may include heat, cold, noise, dust, fumes, sparks, and changing weather conditions
  • Ability to travel and work varying schedules during installation assignments
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation

Schedule
Regular work hours are:
Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a one-hour unpaid lunch.
Schedule adjustments, overtime, early mornings, evenings, weekends, or travel may occasionally be required based on project deadlines, installation needs, and production demands.
