Job Description
We are seeking a Laser Weld Operator to join our dynamic team supporting Trystar in Faribault, MN. The ideal candidate will have experience in laser welding aluminum, mild steel, and stainless steel and a proven ability to produce high-quality welds that meet engineering specifications and safety standards. This is a 2nd shift role, Monday through Thursday, 3:30 PM to 2:00 AM.
Responsibilities:
- Perform hand laser welding on aluminum, mild steel, and stainless steel with precise heat control and filler application.
- Prepare, clean, and inspect materials to meet quality requirements prior to welding.
- Set up and adjust welding equipment, including torch, gas flow, and amperage based on material and thickness.
- Inspect finished welds using visual and non-destructive methods to ensure conformance to specifications.
- Work with various joint configurations including butt, lap, and fillet joints per project requirements.
- Follow all safety guidelines and maintain compliance with company and industry regulations.
- Handle and move materials and welded components safely during fabrication.
- Monitor production, maintain workflow, and complete daily reports, tally sheets, and scrap documentation.
- Accurately record production data, machine settings, and maintenance activities for traceability and improvement.
- Collaborate with supervisors, fabricators, and quality personnel to meet timelines and quality goals.
- Read and execute Standard Operating Procedures and job orders to operate equipment and manufacture product.
- Maintain and operate hand tools, perform routine equipment maintenance, and support troubleshooting.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Basic understanding of measuring tools and weld quality inspection.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to read, interpret, and train on welding symbols, blueprints, and engineering drawings.
- Familiarity with grades and types of aluminum and related welding requirements.
- Knowledge of shop safety procedures and required PPE usage.
- Ability to follow instructions and work under supervision.
- Capability to weld in flat, vertical, and overhead positions on mild steel, aluminum, and stainless steel.
- Basic computer skills to complete production entries and documentation.
- Ability to assess welded surfaces, structures, and components for defects.
- Proficiency welding small and large components and tubing.
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend plant directives in English.
Preferred Skills:
- Completion of a basic welding course or vocational training program.
- Ability to perform simple mathematics for process sheets, SOPs, tally sheets, and material usage including scrap.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds on an intermittent basis.
- Frequent standing, bending, and reaching.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment physical and drug test.
Schedule:
Monday through Thursday, 3:30 PM to 2:00 AM (2nd Shift).
