COFFEE COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM Job Description Bus DriverResponsible to: Director of TransportationQualifications:High School Diploma or equivalentValid driver's license with CDL-BExcellent driving record or any equivalent combination of education and trainingrequired to operate commercial motor vehicle ? Demonstrated skill in driving a largebusMust pass a pre-employment physical examination with controlled substance testingand random tests for controlled substances and alcoholStrong written, verbal, and interpersonal skillsSufficient strength, agility and dexterity, visual acuity, and ocular-motor reaction timeto operate a school bus at all times, including emergency situations.Essential Responsibilities:Safely transports students on an assigned route according to a definite schedule, whichmay require driving during pre-daylight and dusk periods. Operates vehicle incompliance with all traffic and safety laws and regulations, exhibiting defensivedriving habits and observing posted speed limitsPerforms all activities required to safely drive a school bus transportingCoffeeCountySchool students and other authorized personnel to and from schools and schoolrelated eventsProvides transportation for field trips, other sanctioned outings, athletic contests, andextra-curricular events which may require driving after dark, as assignedMonitors riders for potentially dangerous riding situations; watches for and confiscatessharp objects. Reports discipline riders who break posted rulesMonitors orderly entering/exiting of bus. Takes appropriate safety precautions asstudents are boarding and departingInspects bus and checks fuel, oil water, lights, brakes and steering; regulates heating andventilating equipment provided on the bus for the comfort of passengers beforedriving.
