Job description

The lead housekeeper, who functions as a housekeeper, is also responsible for supervising the housekeeping team, ensuring cleanliness standards, training staff, and coordinating with other departments to maintain a welcoming environment.

Job Type: Part-Time Location: Palmetto General Hospital
Schedule: Weekends only
Shift: 7:00am-3:30pm

Key Responsibilities

  1. Supervision and Coordination: The lead housekeeper oversees the housekeeping staff, assigning tasks and ensuring that all cleaning and maintenance duties are performed to the highest standards. They coordinate with other departments, such as front desk and maintenance, to ensure smooth operations. And perform other duties as assigned.
  2. Training and Development: They are responsible for training new housekeeping staff on proper cleaning techniques, safety procedures, and the use of cleaning chemicals. This includes providing ongoing support and guidance to ensure all team members adhere to established standards. 
  3. Quality Control: The lead housekeeper inspects rooms and common areas for cleanliness and proper setup, addressing any issues or deficiencies immediately. They ensure that all areas meet the organization’s expectations for hygiene and presentation. 
  4. Inventory Management: Managing the inventory of cleaning supplies and linens is a crucial duty. The lead housekeeper places orders as necessary to maintain adequate stock levels and ensures that all cleaning equipment is safe and well-maintained. 
  5. Customer Service: Handling guest complaints related to housekeeping services is part of the role. The lead housekeeper takes immediate action to resolve issues to the guest’s satisfaction, promoting a positive experience. Ability to interact with other hospital staff members, visitors, and patients in a friendly, cooperative manner.
  6. Record Keeping: They maintain records on staff performance, guest satisfaction levels, and compliance with health and safety regulations. This includes setting up staff schedules and managing overtime hours as needed. 

Qualifications: 

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience: Previous housekeeping, janitorial, or environmental services experience in a healthcare setting is a plus but not required.
  • Skills:
    • Ability to follow instructions and perform tasks independently.
    • Strong attention to detail and time management skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and push/pull heavy carts up to 100lbs.
    • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks.
