Job description

Salary: $16.55-$24.54 per hour

PRIMARY PURPOSE:
To assist Concession Supervisor in management of zoo concession facilities. This position assists the Concessions Supervisors to provide coverage during scheduled and unscheduled absences.

SUPERVISION:
Under direct supervision of Concessions Supervisor; some supervision of seasonal employees.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
Assists supervisor in hiring and training seasonal employees required to operate zoo concessions; in absence of supervisor, directs work of concession and ticket window staff; assists in preparation of work schedules. Helps supervisor with merchandise offered at snack bars and gift shop; checks in merchandise, does quality control, and prices according to established guidelines. Assists in ordering of inventory for concession operations. Reports operational problems to supervisor and, in supervisors absence, arranges necessary repairs and follow-up on needed action. Assists in monitoring concessions in compliance with applicable health department rules and regulations. Assists with preparation of daily sales, inventory, deliveries and reports closing for each operation. Performs related work as required. Accountable for cash transactions in concession operations. Interacts with zoo visitors handles routine questions, requests, complaints. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Any combination of education, training and experience providing the following knowledge, skills and abilities: High school education and other professional training as required by director; plus, at least one year of appropriate work experience. Cashier experience and cash register operation and programming and experience reconciling cash operations. Knowledge and experience in operation of concession stands, merchandising, purchasing, inventory control, bookkeeping principles. Also required: experience working with the public and ability to carry on good customer relations in a variety of areas: complaints, criticisms, compliments, requests and service; effecting and courteous interaction with associates and the public. Must follow oral and written direction; adhere to established policies and procedures. Must be a self-starter with ability to manage a variety of projects in a timely fashion.

Performs bending, squatting, kneeling, climbing and reaching to both ground level and overhead. Carries pushes and pulls up to 50 pounds in supplies, moving items, receiving merchandise. Must possess manual dexterity necessary to operate a cash register keyboard. Some sitting for long periods. Routine periods of standing work; mobility required moving around the zoo from operation to operation. Ability to drive utility carts and operate two-wheeler.

MISCELLANEOUS REQUIREMENTS:
Must be available during hours of food, beverage and product deliveries to check-in orders, inspect products and properly store deliveries in designated areas. May be subject to work a varied schedule that includes some evening, weekends and/or holidays. This position requires strong teamwork and internal communication skills.
