Job description

Job Purpose/ Objective
The Yard Jockey is responsible for efficiently and safely moving and organizing box trucks within the warehouse yard. This position requires strong driving skills to maneuver large vehicles in tight spaces, as well as physical stamina for tasks such as hitching and unhitching trailers. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-focused, and capable of solving problems that may arise in a busy yard environment, such as equipment issues or limited space.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Safely operate box trucks within the yard and warehouse docks.
  • Position and back trucks accurately for loading and unloading.
  • Inspect trucks for damage or maintenance issues and promptly report any concerns to management.
  • Record and verify truck numbers and related documentation.
  • Complete all assigned tasks before the end of each shift.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, which may include cleaning or assisting in other roles.
  • Wear steel-toe shoes (employees always provided) and a company-issued safety vest.
  • Attend pre-shift huddles at the beginning of each shift.

Working Conditions:
  • Schedule may include overnight shifts, weekends, and some holidays.
  • Work environment may include refrigerated areas with temperatures as low as 35°F.
  • Noise levels are moderate.

Physical Demands:
  • Operate delivery trucks in varying weather and traffic conditions.
  • Lift and move boxes weighing up to 60 lbs.
  • Operate and inspect powered equipment using standard controls.
  • Maintain adequate vision for distance, color, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

MinimumQualification
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience in a warehouse or yard environment in a similar role.
  • Minimum of two (2) years' verifiable driving experience, including dock work.
  • Experience with air brakes required.
  • Valid Driver's License and current DOT Medical Examiner's Card.
  • Clean driving record with no traffic violations.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to operate a 26-foot automatic box truck.
  • High energy level and a positive, team-oriented attitude.
