Job description

Position Purpose

Teton Science Schools (TSS) connects people, place, and nature through education in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Wildlife Expeditions brings this mission to life by offering meaningful, field-based experiences in Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks.

The Wildlife Expeditions Guide creates safe, engaging, and educational experiences that help guests from around the world understand local wildlife, ecology, and conservation. This role serves as a naturalist, educator, and ambassador for TSS, helping guests build a deeper connection to the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem.

ResponsibilitiesGuiding
  • Embody and exemplify all Teton Science Schools' values during programming
  • Lead half day (4 hour), full day (8 hour), full day (12+ hours), custom, and multi day vehicle-based wildlife tours in Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park
  • Educate guests about the flora, fauna, geology, cultural history, natural history, and current events of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem
  • Engage all guests in hands-on, experiential, place-based activities during tours by using animal specimens, binoculars, spotting scopes, and other teaching tools
  • Provide exceptional customer service on every expedition
Supporting Wildlife Expeditions & other program areas of Teton Science Schools
  • Drive and support educational programming across multiple teams as needed, including working with youth groups
  • Clean and organize the Wildlife Expeditions warehouse and shared resources (i.e. optics, teaching tools, vehicles)
  • Provide luggage shuttle support, vehicle shuttle support, meal support, and scouting support on multi day tours
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field preferred
  • Previous guiding experience or teaching experience in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem is preferred
  • Ability to clearly communicate the missions of Teton Science Schools and the National Park Service to guests
  • Exemplified ability to manage risk and make leadership decisions in front country and backcountry settings
  • Proficient in Google Apps and Microsoft Office products
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
  • Expected to work early mornings, late evenings, weekends, all holidays, multiple long days in a row, and double shifts that can all equate to a total beyond 40 hours per week
  • Desire to participate in multi-day travel
  • Ability to drive 11 passenger vans for extended periods (up to 10+ hours per day) for multiple days in a row
  • Enjoy time outdoors in all weather, including extreme temperatures and dry conditions
  • Ability to bend/stoop/reach and lift up to 50 pounds
  • Possess normal range of vision/hearing/speech
