Job description

Pennoni is seeking Fulltime and Part Time Certified Welding Inspectors in Augusta, ME in addition to CT, MA, NH, NY, RI and VT to support QA fabrication inspection programs for transportation infrastructure projects. This position involves inspection of structural steel fabrication, welding, and coatings at off-site fabrication facilities supporting transportation agency projects.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Perform inspection of structural steel fabrication, welding, and coatings
  • Verify compliance with shop drawings, WPS/PQRs, and welder certifications
  • Ensure adherence to applicable codes and standards, including AWS D1.5/D1.1, AASHTO, and DOT specifications
  • Monitor fabrication processes including welding, bolting, and coating
  • Witness and document NDT activities
  • Identify and report non-conformances
  • Prepare detailed daily reports
  • Coordinate with fabricators and project teams
  • Provide updates to clients, and internal project teams

Required Qualifications:
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
  • Minimum 0-3 years structural steel fabrication inspection experience
  • Experience in fabrication shop environments
  • Knowledge of AWS D1.1/D1.5 requirements
  • Strong documentation and communication skills
  • Ability to travel

Preferred Qualifications:
  • NDT certifications (UT, MT, RT film interpretation)
  • Coating inspection experience (AMPP/NACE/SSPC)
  • Bolting inspection experience
  • DOT fabrication inspection experience
  • Fracture-critical inspection experience

Work Environment:
Work is primarily at fabrication facilities with travel based on project needs. Overtime or weekend work may be required. Travel reimbursement is generally in accordance with GSA guidelines or contract requirements.
