2nd Shift Welding Supervisor

Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced 2nd Shift Welding Supervisor to lead and support our evening welding team. This role is responsible for supervising daily production activities, ensuring quality standards are met, maintaining a safe work environment, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong welding and fabrication experience who can motivate employees while meeting production goals.
Essential Responsibilities
- Supervise and lead the 2nd shift welding team to ensure production schedules and customer deadlines are met.
- Train, coach, and develop welders on proper welding techniques, equipment operation, quality standards, and best practices.
- Monitor workflow and staffing to maximize productivity, efficiency, and resource utilization.
- Coordinate with Engineering, Production Planning, and Quality teams to improve fabrication processes and resolve production issues.
- Inspect work to ensure compliance with welding specifications, blueprints, and quality requirements.
- Enforce all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Conduct daily shift meetings to communicate production goals, safety topics, and operational updates.
- Troubleshoot equipment, welding processes, and production issues while implementing corrective actions.
- Monitor employee attendance, performance, and productivity, providing coaching and performance feedback as needed.
- Maintain accurate production records, quality documentation, and shift reports.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and improve overall production performance.
- Assist with welding and fabrication duties when necessary to meet production demands.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school education preferred.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of welding experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
- Previous supervisory or team lead experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of MIG welding; TIG welding experience is a plus.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and fabrication drawings.
- Experience with welding inspection standards and quality control.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and basic production reporting.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
- Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to bend, kneel, reach, and perform repetitive movements.
- Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to heat, welding fumes, and moderate noise.
- Must wear required PPE, including safety glasses, steel-toe boots, welding helmet, gloves, and hearing protection.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in metal fabrication and production scheduling.
- Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement experience.
- Forklift certification or experience operating material handling equipment.
- Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and welding codes (AWS preferred).
Schedule:
2nd Shift: Monday – Friday, 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM (Overtime and occasional weekends may be required based on production needs.)
