Description:
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Utilizing welding expertise, maintaining mining equipment (haul trucks, loaders, dozers & other ancillary equipment) for open pit copper mining operations Utilizes blueprints and sketches to layout, fabricate, construct or repair piping, ductwork, steel structures and plant equipment by cutting, welding, riveting and assembling ferrous and nonferrous plate, heavy sheet metal and structural shapes in both field and shop areas.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Safely use Mig, Tig, GMAW, SMAW, FCAW, oxygen-acetylene cutting systems, and plasma torch systems
  • Plan work to be performed by interpreting engineering drawings, sketches, work orders and verbal instructions
  • Safely operate metal fabrication equipment (shears, rolls, brakes, punch, saw, etc.)
  • Make materials, supplies and tools lists for the assigned work
  • Cut, form, shape, assemble, fabricate, weld, dismantle and install using hand and power tools, welding, cutting and burning equipment as required in performing duties
  • Rig material and equipment for lifting as required

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to pass Company welding test
  • Ability to read prints, layout and fabricate, work from verbal communication
  • Ability to make simple and complex layouts for cutting, welding, shearing, punching and drilling per blueprints or specifications.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. Carry material and equipment to be used on the job.
  • Ability and willingness to work rotating shifts and rotating days off, if required
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Requires working a 12-hour rotating shift schedule
  • Must possess necessary tools to perform requirements of the position

EQUIPMENT/TOOLS REQUIRED TO USE:
  • Impact wrenches, pneumatic air tools, pry bars, sledgehammer, overhead crane, metal shear, iron worker, power drills, grinder, measuring and layout tools

SAFETY EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:
  • Hard hat, safety glasses, goggles, face shield, steel toe shoes, hearing protection, respirator, seat belts (harness) and lanyard, gloves, life vest, rain suit, leather jacket, leather sleeves

WORK CONDITIONS (ENVIRONMENT):
  • Poor footing, hot and cold temperatures, heights (up to 150' above ground), restricted lighting, loud noise, confined spaces, wet, humid, dusty, windy, dirty, greasy areas, chemical fumes exposure.
  • Requires working in the field in all climate conditions as well as working independently

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Minimum of 4 years' experience in all position welding, Air carbon arc and Oxygen Acetylene cutting, gas welding, and working with various types of metals
  • Welding certification a plus
  • Experience with Mining and heavy equipment repair required
