Weekend Welder Helper Jobs in Alaska (NOW HIRING)

The Welders Helper will assist journeyman structural fitters and welders with all aspects of assembling, cutting, and welding structural steel components.

• Preparation of steel beams, plate, angle iron, and channel for welding or bolting utilizing cutting torch, drills and grinders.
• Assist with layout of structural welding clips, plates, grating and holes.
• Interpretation structural steel fabrication and assembly drawings
• Utilize OH cranes and forklifts for work tasks and know correct hand signals
• Knows structural material grades, sizes, and weights
• Sets up equipment and assists with welding as needed using arc, gas-shielded arc, submerged arc, or gas welding equipment.
• Assist with handling and blasting of structural steel utilizing the Wheelabrator

• Signals equipment operator of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment.
• Assembles parts by bolting, welding or screwing.
• Assist with additional labor focused duties including, but not limited to, wash bay operations, snow removal, site clean up, and project specific equipment set ups & takedowns.
• Immediately report all Incidents/Accidents, no matter how small, to their Supervisor.

• This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
• Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit's success also may be assigned.

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent or ten (10) years directly related experience will be considered.
• Minimum one (1) year directly related experience.
• Previous forklift operator experience. Must have current forklift operator certification.
• Good understanding of basic construction tools, processes, and procedures.
• Driver's License and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under company vehicle insurance policy preferred.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and extreme cold. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and high, precarious places. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

The employee is occasionally required to sit. Steel toed boots required on the job.

The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. 

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Travel may require an employee or contractor to pass a TSA security checkpoint.
