Weekend Weather ANchor-reporter/METEOROLOGIST

KTVN-TV 2 News Nevada with Sarkes Tarzian has an opening for a Weather Anchor-Reporter/Meteorologist. The purpose of this position is to research and present accurate and concise weather reports to the television viewer both from the studio and in the field. In addition, to add accurate and informative weather content to the station’s digital platforms, including website, app and social media. It is also to help give KTVN a credible, trusted image with the viewer.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Research and present daily weather reports for the newscasts and digital products.
  • Report live from the field on the latest weather conditions and impacts.
  • Prepare the graphic look of the weather reports through the use of Baron Weather Systems for on-air, online, and mobile.
  • Seek current weather information from the National Weather Service and other reputable meteorology services.
  • Communicate consistently with newscast and digital producers.
  • Continuously work on all on-air skills, including lives, voice, and communication.
  • Generate ideas to the producers and the Assignment Manager for the weather-related stories and live remotes.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology, Journalism or Communications preferred.
  • Candidates who have earned a CBM or AMS Seal of Approval preferred.
  • Must maintain a professional appearance and manner.
  • Excellent oral and written communication; strong public speaking skills.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work under tight deadline pressures.
  • Be able to work on the Baron Weather, BLOX CMS and social media platforms.
  • Have good interviewing skills and phone skills.
  • Develop a broadcast voice for air and have a professional physical presentation on air.
  • Have solid people skills to help maintain a positive attitude.
