Job description

For over 100 years, Maguire has been an industry leader in the fabrication, construction, and maintenance of water storage tanks and elevated water towers. The Field Industrial Sandblaster & Painter will assist the crew foreman/members in organizing the ground while people are working on the water tower.  This person will assist in rigging the tank, running blast pots and paint pump, checking ground rigging, and assisting in all other areas of work on the tower. This person will be responsible for safety, quality, and production standards and goals. 

Essential Functions:

  • 100% tie-off when working on a water tower.                                                                            
  • Unload equipment/rigging from work shack.                                          
  • Assist in setting up rigging, scaffold, and equipment.
  • Assist in rigging the tower with instructions.
  • Run blast pots and paint pumps.
  • Prepare surfaces for painting: pressure washing, sandblasting (light), sand removal from the interior of the tank.
  • Document and inspect personal safety equipment daily, including steel-toe work boots.
  • Check rigging daily for proper setup and secure attachment points.
  • Responsible for completing own timecard.
  • Operate/fuel the compressor and welders.
  • Assist with inspection of prepared/painted surfaces, wet mill gauge/dry mill gauge.
  • Unrig, load, and secure equipment on trailers when the job is completed
  • Keep ground, truck, trailer, and job shack organized and clean.
  • Communicate with the foreman on tasks to be done and the proper procedure.

  • Selected candidates must attend new hire orientation and safety training including climb test in person at our main campus in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Work Environment:

  • Majority of the time is spent in the field and will work in unfavorable weather conditions; both heat and cold.
  • Frequently required to sit, squat, talk and hear. 
  • Constantly required to use hands and fingers to feel, handle or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. 
  • Required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and walk at heights up to 200 feet.
  • Adhere to Maguire's PPE Policy and Safety Programs.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities. Requires close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Able to work at a sustained pace and produce quality work.
