As Medical Director, you'll play a key role in shaping medical standards, mentoring clinicians, fostering a positive culture, and driving clinical excellence across departments.


About the Role:

As Medical Director, your responsibilities will include:
  • Providing medical leadership and strategic direction for the hospital
  • Collaborating with the Hospital Director to ensure operational excellence
  • Mentoring and developing a team of doctors to uphold best practices
  • Leading medical quality assurance and continuing education efforts
  • Supporting recruitment, onboarding, and retention of top-tier clinicians
  • Championing a culture of collaboration, respect, and continuous improvement
Medical Initiatives
  • Sets a minimum standard of care for each doctor and service within the hospital.
  • Partners with Nursing leadership to develop and maintain medical SOPs in the hospital.
  • Evaluates and responds to Adverse Patient events regarding doctors.
  • Decision making regarding financial discounts and refunds for clients based on medical concerns.
  • Scientific planning of rDVM CE events.
  • Supports Nursing leadership in the development of staff.
Team Development
  • Responsible for growth planning of doctors and services in the hospital (addition or subtraction of doctors and services).
  • Collaborates with Hospital Director for the strategic vision of the hospital.
  • Reviews Engagement Survey with Hospital Director. Establishes goals and implements strategy to address engagement of the medical team.
  • Participates in quarterly service management meetings for each service.
  • Participates in quarterly hospital wide meetings.
  • Responsible for annual doctor reviews with 1-3 areas for growth for the doctor to focus on in the following year.
  • Responsible for more frequent meetings with doctors (1-on-1s, e.g.).
  • Responsible for doctor contracts and contract amendments.
  • Monitors doctor retention rates. Establishes goals for recruitment and retention.
  • Ensures global doctor coverage for the hospital. Settles any disputes over PTO and CE time that would leave the hospital understaffed.

Recruiting

  • Works with Talent Acquisition to guide recruiting efforts. Meets regularly with recruiting team to advocate for the hospital and keep needs at top of mind.
  • Performs initial phone interview of doctor candidates. Coordinates hospital visit to provide exceptional candidate experience.
  • Works with shareholders to determine candidate of choice. Prepares and negotiates new DVM contract.

Owning business

  • Manages CVRC's relationship with rDVMs.
  • Participates in field marketing.
  • Partners with Hospital Director on pricing strategies for meeting overall price increase goal while maintaining competitive position in the local market.
  • Participates in annual budget development with Hospital Director and Division Lead.
  • Participates in Cap Ex, renovation, expansion, and de novo projects.
  • Participates in monthly P&L analysis. Partners with Hospital Director and Nursing leadership to identify opportunities for improvement in regard to revenue (ATC, caseload), DVM labor, staff labor, and cost of services.

Communication

  • Evaluates and responds to client concerns regarding medical care.
  • Evaluates and responds to rDVM concerns regarding interface between their hospitals and CVRC.
  • Coaches doctors to achieve superior client communication.
  • Represents CVRC and our doctors during legal proceedings.
  • Monitors Medical Records to confirm appropriate content and drive compliance with State Board regulations

Regulatory compliance

  • Maintains DEA hospital license.
  • Partners with Safety Officer to assure compliance with controlled drug policy.
  • Participates with Safety Officer to maintain OSHA compliance.
  • Ensures medicine is provided in compliance with Federal, State and local regulatory requirements.
  • Oversees confirmation of DVM team licensure and credentialing.
You'll also maintain a partial clinical caseload, allowing you to stay close to patient care while shaping the future of the hospital.
