Role Summary
As a Freelance Senior Makeup Artist, you will be responsible for preparing presenters and guests for on-air appearances, ensuring a polished and consistent look aligned with Al Jazeera Media Network's broadcast standards. You will play a key role in supporting live and recorded productions in a fast-paced newsroom environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare presenters and guests for broadcast, ensuring a professional on-screen appearance at all times
  • Maintain consistency in hair and makeup, aligning with editorial and visual standards
  • Collaborate with production, lighting, and design teams to achieve a cohesive on-screen look
  • Apply strong understanding of studio lighting, HD/4K cameras, and color correction in makeup application
  • Work efficiently under tight deadlines, particularly during live and breaking news coverage
  • Ensure safe use of products and techniques, minimizing any adverse skin reactions
  • Provide hair styling, including fitting and maintaining wigs and hairpieces when required
  • Deliver basic prosthetic makeup when needed, including application and maintenance
  • Manage makeup kits, ensuring all tools and products are clean, stocked, and up to date
  • Source and manage materials, maintaining cost awareness and operational readiness
  • Maintain detailed records, including continuity notes and visual references for repeat appearances
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Makeup, Hair Styling for Film & TV, Fashion, or a related field
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in broadcast, media, or production environments
  • Proven experience working in live or studio-based television environments
  • Strong understanding of on-camera makeup techniques for different lighting conditions
  • Ability to work flexibly, including shifts, weekends, and breaking news coverage
  • Excellent attention to detail, speed, and professionalism under pressure
