Weekend Traveling Emt information

What is a weekend traveling EMT?

Weekend Traveling EMTs are Emergency Medical Technicians who work primarily on weekends and travel to various locations as needed to provide emergency medical care. They often fill staffing gaps, assist during high-demand periods, or support rural and underserved communities. These EMTs respond to emergency calls, provide pre-hospital care, and transport patients to medical facilities. The role requires flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to work in different environments, sometimes with little notice.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a weekend traveling EMT?

To thrive as a Weekend Traveling EMT, you need a valid EMT certification, strong emergency medical skills, and a clean driving record. Familiarity with ambulance equipment, GPS navigation systems, and electronic patient care reporting tools is essential. Exceptional communication, quick decision-making, and adaptability are critical soft skills for handling high-pressure situations and diverse patient needs. These abilities ensure effective, timely care and safe transportation for patients across various locations during weekend shifts.

What are some unique challenges faced by weekend traveling EMTs, and how can they prepare for them?

Weekend Traveling EMTs often face the challenge of adapting quickly to new geographic areas, protocols, and team dynamics, as they may be assigned to different locations each weekend. They must be highly adaptable and possess strong communication skills to integrate seamlessly with unfamiliar crews and respond effectively to diverse emergencies. Preparation involves staying organized, maintaining up-to-date certifications, and being proactive in learning local procedures and routes ahead of each assignment. This role also requires excellent time management to balance travel demands and shift schedules.

The Cardiac Management Solutions division of ZOLL, manufacturer of the LifeVest®, is seeking a Patient Service Representative (PSR) in an independent contractor role to train patients on the use and care of LifeVest®.

LifeVest® is worn by patients at risk for sudden cardiac arrest (SCA), providing protection during their changing condition. It is lightweight and easy to wear, allowing patients to return to their common activities of daily living, while having the peace of mind that they are protected from SCA.

This is the perfect opportunity for the health professional with patient care and teaching experience to supplement his or her income. A typical LifeVest® patient is in the hospital awaiting discharge, and the Patient Service Representative sets up the equipment and trains the patient and caregivers on the use and care of the device. They also follow up with patients as needed to assure patient understanding and satisfaction. PSRs retain the flexibility to accept or decline assignments as their schedules dictate. Most assignments can be scheduled during free time – before/after work, and on days off.

  • Contact caregivers and family to schedule services

  • Valid driver's license and car insurance and/or valid state ID
  • Willingness to pay a $30 annual DME fee which is deducted from a completed Work Order
  • Willingness to pay for additional vendor credentialing (i.e. RepTrax) if needed geographically
