Sterile Processing Technician

Location: 601 Elmwood Avenue, Rochester, NY 14642
Duration: 13 Weeks
Schedule: Evening Shift (5×8-hour shifts), 40 hours/week
Requirements: Weekends, holidays, on-call, and callback as required by the department

Position Summary

The Sterile and Materials Processing Department is a state-of-the-art instrument processing and sterilization facility responsible for the decontamination, high-level disinfection (HLD), assembly, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment. The department supports 35 operating rooms, ambulatory care units, and outpatient clinics using Getinge T-DOC barcode tracking for instrument management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect, assemble, package, sterilize, and distribute surgical instrument trays, procedural sets, surgical case carts, and specialty equipment.
  • Examine surgical instruments for cleanliness, functionality, and proper assembly before sterilization.
  • Assemble instrument sets according to department count sheets and T-DOC protocols, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Select appropriate packaging and sterilization methods based on manufacturer guidelines and departmental procedures.

  • Experience in a 500 bed acute care hospital
  • Minimum 6 months of travel Sterile Processing Technician experience
  • Two professional references (including one from one of the last two assignments)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Level I Trauma Center experience
  • Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER)
  • Orthopedic instrument tray experience
  • Experience with EPIC electronic medical record system
