Job description

Maine Conservation Voters Action Fund & Maine Conservation Voters

Job Title: Part-Time Political Field Organizer

Position Snapshot: Temporary positions | 20-40 hours per week | $25 per hour

About MCVAF: Maine Conservation Voters Action Fund (MCVAF) is the political action committee of Maine Conservation Voters (MCV). We engage in direct political activities to support candidates for Governor, State Senate, and State House in Maine who have earned endorsements for their environmental records, stated positions, and ability and interest in taking a proactive leadership role in protecting our environment, climate, and democracy.

About the Position: 2026 is a pivotal election year for Maine's environment, and MCV is hiring temporary field organizers to help elect pro-conservation candidates up and down the ballot as part of Maine Conservation Voters Action Fund (MCVAF)'s election program.

Field organizers will represent MCVAF and will talk directly with voters through door-to-door canvassing, phone banking, texting, and other outreach. They will also recruit and support volunteers, help lead canvasses and phone banks, and collect stories from Mainers about why they support pro-environment, conservation, and democracy candidates.

Positions can range from 20-40 hours per week from hire date through the November general election and will include evening and weekend work.

Every conversation you have on the doors or the phones could be the one that turns out a voter for clean water, climate action, and a healthier Maine - this is hands-on, high-impact work at a critical moment.

To accomplish this work, field organizers will:

  • Knock on doors and talk with voters
  • Make phone calls and participate in other voter outreach
  • Recruit volunteers for canvasses, phone banks, texting, and other activities
  • Welcome, train, and support volunteers during shifts
  • Help lead canvass launches and phone banks
  • Distribute campaign literature and other materials
  • Keep accurate records of voter conversations and volunteer participation
  • Help film short videos of supporters sharing why they support pro-conservation candidates
  • Participate in regular team meetings, trainings, and check-ins
  • Represent Maine Conservation Voters Action Fund professionally and respectfully

Qualifications

We are looking for people who:

  • Care about protecting Maine's environment and building a fair and healthy future for all Mainers
  • Enjoy talking with people and listening to different perspectives
  • Are dependable, organized, and able to work independently
  • Can motivate and support volunteers
  • Are comfortable using a phone and basic digital tools
  • Can work some afternoons, evenings, and weekends
  • Are able to travel within an assigned area, and have reliable transportation
  • Have a valid driver's license and current auto insurance (a driving record check may be conducted as part of the hiring process)
  • Have access to a personal smartphone with reliable service, used for calling, texting, and coordinating during shifts

Previous organizing, canvassing, customer service, community outreach, or volunteer experience is helpful but not required. Paid training will be provided.

Compensation: $25 per hour.

Hours: 20-40 hours per week, including nights and weekends.

Duration: Positions available to start immediately; expected to end November 6, 2026.

Location: Field-based in Oxford County, Maine, with assignments varying by campaign needs; some remote administrative work.

Travel: Local travel within your assigned area will be required.

Mileage Reimbursement: Organizers are assigned to a defined district. Travel between locations within your assigned district during a shift is reimbursed at the current IRS standard mileage rate (76 cents per mile as of July 1, 2026), per MCV's mileage reimbursement policy. Your commute from home to your district and back is not reimbursed.

Employer of Record: Maine Conservation Voters (MCV) is the employing entity for this position and will issue a W-2.

Earned Paid Leave: This position is eligible for Maine's Earned Paid Leave.

Benefits: This position is not eligible for benefits.

Position Type: This is a temporary, at-will, non-exempt position. Reports to Dan Jenkins, Political Director.
