Job description

Youth Ministry Coordinator – 30 hours/week, Sturgeon Bay
Job Summary: Designs, develops, directs and evaluates the parish youth ministry program (grades 6-12 for Corpus Christi, St. Joseph, Ss. Peter amp; Paul and Holy Name of Mary Catholic parishes). Provides spiritual leadership to assist the parishes in building a solid foundation for teen and young adult spirituality, Christian living, ministry to those in need and outreach to the community. This includes providing youth opportunities for catechesis, prayer, worship, discipleship, retreats, relationship building and outreach.
Schedule and Compensation
The Youth Ministry Coordinator role is a part-time position (30 hours/week; normal work hours include evenings and weekends) with a compensation range between $20/hour to $24/hour (depending on qualifications and experience) that reports to the Pastors of Corpus Christi Parish and St. Joseph Parish in Sturgeon Bay.
Required Knowledge, Skills amp; Abilities:
Knowledge
  • Bachelor’s degree in theology, related area or equivalent experience.
  • Understands catechetical processes as they pertain to youth and young adults.
  • Understands and participates in ongoing formation and educational opportunities to remain current with teen ministry trends, including attendance in diocesan, regional and national conferences.
  • Two years of youth ministry experience in a parish.
  • Two years of supervisory experience required.
  • Valid driver’s license and insurability.
Skills amp; Abilities
  • Strong leadership and administrative skills.
  • Implements age-appropriate instructional materials/methods of teaching.
  • Able to handle multiple projects, set priorities and possess decision making skills.
  • Establishes and maintains effective relationships through strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Embrace the mission and vision of the Catholic Diocese of Green Bay in accordance with Catholic Social Teachings and the moral and ethical values of the Catholic Church. Individual must be a practicing Catholic with a strong faith that is dedicated to Gospel values while living a life of prayer and service. Although the following list is intended to be comprehensive, the position requires flexibility as other expectations, responsibilities and tasks may be required.
Youth Ministries – Life Teen (High School Ministry; grades 9-12)
Edge (Middle School Ministry; grades 6-8)
  1. Provides programs/experiences that promote Catholic teaching integrating the needs, interests and attitudes of teens.
  2. Develops teen leadership skills, promoting leadership roles in Life Teen Core Team and participation in the Edge Core Team.
  3. Establishes and maintains healthy intentional relationships with youth and their families.
  4. Develops a network for encountering and evangelizing teens (and young adults) who are not currently involved in Life Teen (sporting events, musicals, other student activities).
  5. Fundraises and prepares students for the annual mission trips.
  6. Provides regular established time for listening and mentoring.
Youth Program Administration –
  1. Along with pastors establishes youth ministry program goals, objectives and strategies.
  2. Identifies program needs; evaluates, selects, develops and promotes appropriate curricula and resource materials.
  3. Develops, implements and maintains program policies, guidelines and written procedures for effective catechesis and all other aspects of youth ministry activities.
  4. Recruits, trains, advises and supports Core Team (adults ministering in the Life Teen amp; Edge ministries) that provides catechesis using practical ministry skills to serve teens.
  5. Provides Core Team catechists with spiritual growth opportunities in theology, scripture, faith formation and methodology, including participation in diocesan and other relevant formation activities (Life Teen Empower).
  6. Develops and maintains relationship with Core Team members; plans retreats and social gatherings for team building opportunities.
  7. Serves as an ex-officio member of the Board of Education/Education Committee.
  8. Assists in the preparation and monitoring of the youth ministry budget.
  9. Maintains all youth program records.
Development of Christian Youth Life-Styles through Catechesis –
  1. Creates and monitors youth opportunities, youth prayer evenings, annual youth retreats, youth leadership teams, youth retreats, youth mission trips and service events in conjunction with the Core Team.
  2. Oversees liturgical and service dimensions of the youth ministry program.
  3. Promotes opportunities and maintains an environment for educational and spiritual development of youth.
  4. Assesses student growth in faith while communicating progress to parents/guardians and encouraging the parents' role as primary educators.
  5. Is present to people ministering to their needs while making referrals as necessary.
Confirmation Preparation (for both Life Teen and Edge) –
  1. Follows diocesan guidelines for the Sacrament of Confirmation.
  2. Development, coordination, and execution of the Confirmation preparation program including the Confirmation prep retreat.
  3. Plans Liturgy for Confirmation (music, ministers, priests, coordinate with Bishop, etc).
Community and Communication –
  1. Informs pastors of youth activities, trends and issues.
  2. Participates as a youth ministry resource in parish life, committees and activities.
  3. Promotes Life Teen and Edge at Masses and develops opportunities for teen visibility.
  4. Communicates through social media, catechist meetings, personal conferences, bulletin announcements, email and telephone.
  5. Maintains a healthy and relevant social media outreach to youth (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.).
  6. Provides opportunities for dialogue with youth, parents, volunteers and parishioners.
  7. Maintains a healthy relationship with catechists and staff at parish and school.
  8. Attends and actively participates in parish events and staff meetings.
  9. Schedules events with parish, school and community calendars.

ADA and Other Details
Physical/Visual/Mental Demands: While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle objects, reach with hands and arms; and talk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision and distance vision.
Typical Working Conditions: Person in this position will work in an inside office environment; would work alone at times and frequently with a group; normal hours would be 30 hours per week including evenings and weekends.
Nature of Supervision Received: Receives minimal supervision. Incumbent must establish priorities and independently set daily objectives to meet deadlines and address urgent situations as they occur.
Judgment Exercised/Decisions Made: Considerable judgment and independent decisions making is required regarding compliance to policies. Decisions are moderately complex. Requires ability to thoroughly investigate and analyze problems and recommend the proper course of action. Judgment and tact must be used in communication of policies and procedures.
Financial Responsibility: Responsible for the effective use of budgeted resources.
