The Audio Engineer is a hands on technical leadership role responsible for delivering premium live and broadcast audio experiences for Apple’s Worldwide Events. This role owns the operation, maintenance, and evolution of our audio systems, ensuring clarity, reliability, and aesthetic excellence across technical rehearsals, live events, and broadcasts located at Steve Jobs Theater, various Apple facilities and remote locations.
Description
Working in close partnership with the Technical Team and cross functional internal teams, the Audio Engineer sets and maintains the highest production standards while leading audio crews and vendor partners. Success in this role requires deep technical expertise, meticulous preparation, and calm execution in executive-facing environments with zero margin for error.","responsibilities":"Own the design, configuration, operation, and long term health of all Steve Jobs Theater (SJT) audio systems.
Lead setup and maintenance of PA, immersive audio Dolby ATMOS, monitoring, RF, intercom, playback, and recording systems.
Operate and support digital mixing platforms including SSL Live, Avid S6L, DiGiCo, and Yamaha.
Design, deploy, and manage Dante-based audio networks, including redundancy, time code, QoS, and monitoring.
Maintain and operate theater and remote production sound systems.
Support immersive and spatial audio workflows, ensuring accurate translation and audience experience.
Ensure systems are aligned, tuned, documented, with signal flow diagrams, and production ready for rehearsals, executive QCs, and live events.
Lead hands on audio operation for all SJT events and select external or remote productions as required.
Mix and supervise live audio for executive presentations, product launches, comms meetings and broadcast productions.
Monitor audio quality in real time, ensuring intelligibility, tonal balance, latency control, and broadcast readiness.
Troubleshoot and resolve audio issues quickly and calmly during rehearsals, and live events.
Ensure seamless integration between in venue audio systems, broadcast audio paths, intercom, and show control.
Collaborate closely with Transmission, Video Engineering, Production teams, and cross-functional partners.
Support special events, remote video shoots, and studio style productions
Record, edit, and master audio content as needed.
Coordinate rental, specification, and deployment of supplemental audio systems.
Create equipment budgets, forecasts, and technical recommendations.
This role requires up to 30% travel, including both domestic and international travel, based on project needs.
Schedule varies based on the dynamic production calendar.
Flexibility is required; this role may exceed 40 hours per week during peak production periods.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with immersive and spatial audio systems.
Strong understanding of audio networking, including Dante, redundancy, and system design.
Advanced experience with SSL Live consoles and large-format digital mixing environments.
Commitment to safe work practices and high production standards.
Contribute to continuous improvement of workflows, systems, and best practices.
Minimum Qualifications
7+ years of proven experience supporting large-scale productions, touring, or medium to large size performance theaters or amphitheaters.
Demonstrated expertise in theatrical, concert, and event audio mixing.
Deep knowledge of professional audio systems, signal flow, and system integration, Audio networking: Dante, AES67, AVB.
Strong understanding of acoustics and audio device selection and placement.
Experience working directly with executives, presenters, talent, designers, and stagehands.
Pay & Benefits
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $146,800 and $221,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple's Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
