Job Summary

We are seeking experienced Structural Steel Fitters who excel at reading blueprints, performing layouts, and working with precise measurements. This position is responsible for laying out, fitting, aligning, and assembling structural steel components according to engineering drawings and fabrication specifications.

The ideal candidate will have strong structural fitting experience, excellent blueprint reading skills, fabrication knowledge, and the ability to work independently while maintaining high quality and production standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Read and interpret complex blueprints, shop drawings, and fabrication specifications
  • Layout, position, align, and fit structural steel components according to engineering requirements
  • Verify measurements and dimensions to ensure accurate fit-up and assembly
  • Perform complex layouts and fabrication calculations
  • Understand and maintain fit-up tolerances and dimensional accuracy
  • Check camber, sweep, and dimensional tolerances of beams and structural shapes
  • Make corrections to ensure compliance with quality standards and specifications
  • Conduct heat corrections on structural steel components as needed
  • Set up complex jigs, fixtures, and assemblies
  • Safely operate cutting torches, heating torches, and track torch equipment
  • Tack weld assemblies and prepare components for final welding
  • Assist with overhead crane operations
  • Maintain a safe and productive work environment
Required Qualifications
  • Previous structural steel fitting experience
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and fabrication drawings
  • Proven experience with measurements, layouts, and fit-up procedures
  • Ability to fit and tack weld assemblies independently
  • Strong understanding of dimensional tolerances
  • Solid math skills, including fractions, decimals, angles, and layout calculations
  • Experience using measuring tools, squares, levels, and layout equipment
  • Ability to work independently and meet production goals
Preferred Qualifications
  • Flux Core welding experience
  • MIG welding experience
  • Experience operating a track torch
  • Structural fabrication experience in a heavy industrial environment
  • Familiarity with overhead crane operations
Work Environment
  • Structural steel fabrication facility
  • Heavy industrial manufacturing environment
  • Frequent standing, bending, lifting, climbing, and working around large steel components
  • Exposure to welding, grinding, cutting, and crane operations
  • Overtime and weekend work may be required based on production demands

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cocoa, FL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr.
