Laboratory Specimen Processor

Hours: Monday - Thursday from 7AM to 4:30PM. Friday from 7AM to 1:30PM.

Job Summary

The laboratory specimen processor is responsible for a variety of tasks, which include specimen receiving and sorting, lab support, and test data entry. This position requires a considerable amount of flexibility, attention to detail, and accuracy.

Essential Job Functions
  • Pickup and delivery specimens from the floors to the lab
  • Attention to detail, and ability to multi-task
  • Needs to be able to handle working in a fast pace, repetitive environment
  • Ensure specimens and requisitions are correctly labeled
  • Should be able to work independently and in a team
  • Flexible schedule to accommodate business needs
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of phlebotomy procedures and equipment, accessioning, verifying specimens and specimen requirements
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA privacy rules.
  • Skill in communicating in a professional manner, both verbally and in writing.
  • Skill in planning, organizing, and time management.
  • Skill in using a computer and a variety of software, including Electronic Health Records (EHR) software, Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.
  • Skill in managing multiple priorities and problem solving.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure to meet established goals and objectives.
  • Ability to maintain high levels of professional and personal integrity.
  • Ability to convey professional demeanor and sound judgment in dealing with patients' care, protection of patient privacy, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to act as a good representative of the company.
Education & Experience
  • HS Diploma, GED, or 1+ years of similar work experience
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and PC experience
Working Conditions and Physical Effort

This role operates in a healthcare setting. This position requires frequent standing, walking, and computer work. This position allows employee to moderately vary physical position or activity for comfort. Must be able to:

  • Stand 80% or longer of workday.
  • Walk 80% or longer of workday.
  • Sit 10% of workday.
  • Requires ability to lift and maneuver up to 35 pounds occasionally.
  • Requires employee to: bend, squat, kneel, and reach above shoulder level occasionally and twist occasionally.
  • Requires repetitive use of hands for: simple grasping, fine manipulation, computer use.
  • Requires all sensory skills (speech, vision, smell, touch, and hearing) corrected to near normal range.
