GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in Sleep Medicine is responsible for the outpatient evaluation and management of patients with sleep-related disorders in collaboration with the attending physician. The APP is committed to delivering high-quality, evidence-based care that improves patient outcomes and enhances access to care.

The APP practices within established clinical protocols, professional standards, institutional policies, and collaborative agreements. Responsibilities are performed based on clinical training, experience, specialty standards, and physician oversight.

  • Full-time, Days
  • Current scheduling for this role is primarily weekdays. Future scheduling needs, including potential weekend coverage or call, may be adjusted based on patient care needs, program growth, and operational priorities. Flexibility may be required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Perform comprehensive evaluations of new and return patients in ambulatory sleep medicine settings
  • Obtain detailed sleep histories and perform focused physical examinations
  • Diagnose and manage sleep disorders including Obstructive and central sleep apnea, Insomnia, Narcolepsy and hypersomnia disorder and Restless legs syndrome
  • Interpret diagnostic testing, including polysomnography and home sleep studies
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans
  • Initiate and manage PAP therapies (CPAP, BiPAP, APAP)
  • Prescribe medications and manage ongoing treatment plans
  • Document H&Ps, progress notes, and follow-up visits in the EMR
  • Assist with transitions of care for hospitalized patients as needed
  • Collaborate with physicians, office staff, and sleep lab personnel
  • Coordinate care with referring providers and other specialties
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams
  • Facilitate timely and appropriate patient care delivery
  • Educate patients on sleep disorders, treatment options, and sleep hygiene
  • Review diagnostic results and adjust care plans accordingly
  • Prescribe and refill medications
  • Support adherence to PAP therapy and troubleshoot barriers to compliance
  • Assist in development and implementation of sleep medicine programs
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and outcome monitoring
  • Support adherence to clinical guidelines and institutional standards
  • Contribute to improving patient outcomes and operational efficiency

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS

Education / Training:

  • Master's Degree in Nursing OR a Masters in Physician Assistant studies

Work Experience:

  • 1 to 3 years' experience as an Advanced Practice Provider in a Sleep Medicine clinical setting, preferred.
  • Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills

  • Excellent communication and patient engagement abilities

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating within a team-based model

Certification, Licensure, Registration:

  • State of Michigan Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant license required
  • AHA/ARC BLS certification required
  • DEA license is required
