SUMMARY

To provide high quality, learner-centered instruction for students enrolled in Physical Science coursework at any KCKCC location while supporting the institution's mission, vision, and strategic plan.


This is a POOL position. Application materials for this adjunct position are accepted on an ongoing basis due to the increasing demand for courses in this subject area.


POSITION DESCRIPTION

  • Conduct all class sessions according to schedule.
  • Provide instruction, activities, assignments, and assessments to adequately cover all Student Learning Objectives for the specific course(s) taught.
  • Use teaching methods that emphasize application, cooperation and collaboration and engage students actively in their studies, encouraging them to become independent learners with higher-order thinking skills.
  • Organize and explain content using methods which are appropriate to students with differing abilities, levels of preparation, and cultural experience.
  • Assign and provide feedback for in- and out-of-class work; monitor student progress.
  • Perform adequate assessment and analysis of assessment according to college requirements.
  • Reflect on and evaluate the effectiveness of one's own pedagogy.
  • Use educational technology tools and teach in a variety of modalities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to arrive on time and be ready to teach course(s) during scheduled times.
  • Ability to prepare curricular materials to convey learning objectives to students.
  • Ability to effectively utilize Blackboard for posting assignments, assessing students, performances, and grading.
  • Ability to think critically and solve problems independently.
  • Ability to be organized and work on multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 applications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in Physical Science with work in Astronomy, Geology, or Meteorology or a master's degree in a related discipline area with eighteen (18) credit hours of graduate work in one of the previous fields

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Teaching experience in an open enrollment, urban community college
  • Experience using appropriate technology or virtual tools.
  • Experience with a Learning Management System such as Blackboard.
  • Experience in learner-centered pedagogy.

WORK SCHEDULE
