Summary of Job Duties:A Medical Laboratory Scientist in Hematology performs complex laboratory testing and analysis of blood and blood-forming tissues to assist physicians in diagnosing, monitoring, and treating diseases. This role involves examining blood samples, operating specialized laboratory equipment, interpreting test results, and ensuring accuracy and quality control in all procedures.
Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Sciences OR an approved ASCP discipline (30 semester hours in biology and chemistry, which may be obtained within, or in addition to, the Bachelor's).

  • ASCP or another accrediting agency certified or eligible (Certification must be obtained within one year of employment).


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a hematology laboratory or other clinical laboratory

  • Active ASCP certification

Job Requirements:

  • Set-up, maintain and operate lab automation systems used to process samples.
  • Operate, calibrate and maintain equipment used in analysis such as spectrophotometers, analyzers, microscopes, slide stainers, diluters, and computer controlled high volume analyzers, mixers, rotators, pipettes.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting on equipment used to perform testing.
  • Maintain equipment used for personal protection and safety such as eyewashes, safety showers, biohazard containers, hoods, chemical cabinets and personal protective equipment.
  • Maintain temperature dependent equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, incubators, water baths, heat blocks.
  • Maintain current knowledge of hospital policy, state, federal and other regulatory requirements. Maintain certifications, continuing education, annual education and/or training as required for position. Perform proficiency testing required for accreditation
  • Perform other duties as needed.
