Job description

Fountain Valley School, a selective and diverse boarding school, educates 250 students in grades 9–12 on a beautiful 1,100-acre campus in Colorado Springs, CO. Founded in 1930, the School provides a rigorous, global curriculum in academics, arts, athletics, and the outdoors.

The Position:

Fountain Valley School seeks an experienced, compassionate, and collaborative Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Health Services team. Reporting to the Director of Health Services, the School Nurse provides comprehensive nursing care to students in a college preparatory boarding and day school environment. This position plays a vital role in promoting student health and wellness while working closely with the Director of Health Services, staff nurses, counselors, the School Physician/Medical Director, Athletic Trainer, faculty, and other campus partners.

Key Responsibilities including but are not limited to:

  • Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders, nursing standards, and School policies.
  • Perform nursing assessments, triage, and evaluate students in the Health Center and during school activities.
  • Provide direct patient care for acute illnesses, injuries, and chronic medical conditions.
  • Coordinate and manage student care, including referrals, follow-up, and communication with families and healthcare providers.
  • Consult regularly with the School Physician/Medical Director regarding student care.
  • Respond to medical emergencies on campus and provide appropriate nursing interventions.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential medical records and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Accompany students to medical appointments as needed.
  • Provide health education to students and staff regarding illness prevention, wellness, medications, and healthy lifestyles.
  • Collaborate with counselors, athletic staff, faculty, and administrators to support student health and well-being.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation and provide after-hours support as assigned.
  • Serve as a positive representative of Fountain Valley School by maintaining professional interactions with students, parents, faculty, staff, and the public.
  • Maintain regular and reliable, in person attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Current Colorado Registered Nurse license or eligibility for licensure through the Nurse Licensure Compact required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of nursing experience preferred; experience in pediatrics, adolescent health, school nursing, emergency, urgent care, or public health is highly desirable.
  • Colorado Special Services Provider License preferred or ability to obtain.
  • Current Healthcare Provider CPR, First Aid, and AED certification required.
  • Strong assessment, clinical decision-making, and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records and Microsoft Office or Google Workspace preferred.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record.

Working Conditions:

  • Environment: Work is performed in a school health center, academic buildings, residence halls, athletic facilities, and outdoor campus locations. Frequent interaction with students, parents, faculty, staff, healthcare providers, and community partners.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to sit, stand, walk throughout campus, bend, stoop, kneel, and occasionally lift or assist individuals weighing up to 40 pounds. Must be able to respond quickly to medical emergencies and travel across campus as needed.
  • Schedule: Three 12-hour weekday shifts, one scheduled weekend each month, participation in an on-call rotation, and occasional evening, overnight, or holiday coverage as needed.
  • Working Relationships: Collaborates closely with students, parents, faculty, coaches, counselors, physicians, athletic trainers, administrators, outside healthcare providers, and other members of the School community.

Salary: $50,000 - $70,000, depending on experience
