POSITION SUMMARY:
The Custodian is responsible for a variety of tasks including washing, mopping, scrubbing, dusting and sweeping. Maintains routine cleaning and maintenance procedures to ensure a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations and grounds for Atlanta Public Schools. This position reports to the assigned or designated supervisor.



MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:
High School Diploma or GED preferred.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:
N/A.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
None required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Written and oral communication.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Conducts routine building inspections daily and identifies areas requiring follow-up action.
Informs Maintenance Supervisor immediately of areas requiring action.
Performs clean-up tasks on surrounding grounds and structures.
Cleans, shampoos, and/or disinfects carpets, rugs, and restrooms in accordance with established procedures.
Opens and secures building; sets security alarm.
Receives and stores school custodial supplies.
Dusts and polishes furniture, window ledges, and all horizontal surfaces.
Assists in setting up facilities for special events.
Moves materials, equipment, and furniture as necessary.
Ensures floors are cleaned, mopped, stripped, and waxed as necessary.
Maintains equipment to ensure proper working condition and cleanliness; stores equipment as appropriate.
Required to have prompt, regular attendance for scheduled shifts during regular business hours.
Performs other duties as assigned by an appropriate administrator or their representative.

Upper Body Mobility: Requires repeated reaching by extending hand(s) and/or arm(s) in any direction. Climbing ladders or scaffolds. Using equipment requiring high dexterity. Requires feeling to perceive object size, shape, temperature or texture by means of senses in your skin.
Strength: Moderate lifting or carrying 26-50 lbs. or less on a regular basis.
Environmental Requirements: High dust, dirt, grease environment. Regular exposure to moving machinery and/or vehicles. Works with poor ventilation or with regular exposure to odors. Regular exposure to chemicals, solvents. Regular exposure to weather including heat, cold, dampness and/or humidity.
Mental Requirements: Ability to understand and follow verbal or basic written instructions. Ability to learn and apply safety procedures and standards.
