Position Summary

Smooth-On, Inc.'s (the "Company") GHS Compliance Specialist is responsible for the development, maintenance, and regulatory compliance of all Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and product labeling for Company products. This role ensures alignment with Globally Harmonized System (GHS), Department of Transportation (DOT), and all other applicable hazard communication regulations.

The GHS Compliance Specialist will independently manage SDS and labeling workflows, respond to customer inquiries regarding SDSs and labels, and ensure that all SDSs and labels are proactively reviewed and updated to reflect current regulatory requirements and company data. This is a largely independent role requiring strong analytical ability, attention to detail, and the ability to manage high-volume documentation workflows. This position will report directly to Smooth-On, Inc.'s Regulatory Counsel and may be performed remotely.

Essential Job Functions

Safety Data Sheet (SDS) Drafting
Draft, review, and publish SDSs for all finished goods.
Classify mixtures and substances in accordance with GHS hazard classification criteria.
Ensure that all SDSs are compliant with Globally Harmonized System (GHS) and DOT requirements across applicable jurisdictions.
Review and apply requirements from the UN GHS "Purple Book" and other applicable hazard communication regulations to support defensible hazard classification and SDS content.
Maintain raw material SDSs, certifications, lab reports, and other relevant documentation to support GHS classifications.
Ensure SDS accuracy through collaboration with R&D and Operations regarding formulation, processing, and hazard data.

Safety Data Sheet (SDS) Management
Monitor, interpret, and ensure company-wide compliance with GHS standards.
Communicate proposed hazard classification changes to leadership for review and approval prior to issuance.
Conduct benchmarking SDS reviews for comparable products to validate classification approaches and identify alignment with industry standards.
Manage customer requests for SDSs, including timely distribution and response to inquiries.
Establish and maintain a tracking system for SDS updates, including status reporting and prioritization, to ensure timely completion.
Resolve SDS software issues with external vendors.

Product Labeling
Develop and maintain compliant labels and label templates for all finished good containers and packages.
Convert label designs provided by Sales & Marketing into compliant label templates within the Company's labeling system, ensuring final output matches approved designs and brand requirements.
Generate product labels and ensure all labels meet GHS and Federal Hazardous Substances Act (FHSA) requirements.
Coordinate large-scale label updates driven by SDS and regulatory changes.
Independently troubleshoot labeling software issues, including formatting constraints, template configuration, and system limitations.
Resolve labeling design, formatting, and print production issues.
Collaborate with Sales & Marketing to ensure regulatory requirements are incorporated into label designs without deviation from approved branding and layout.

Cross-Functional Coordination
Work with Sales & Marketing, R&D, IT, and Operations to ensure regulatory accuracy across materials.
Communicate compliance goals and issues related to SDSs and labels clearly across the organization.
