Specialized Transportation Driver

The Specialized Transport / Heavy Haul Driver is the powerhouse behind moving the biggest, toughest, and most complex loads on the road. From lowboys and RGNs to multi‑axle heavy‑haul configurations, this driver takes command of elite equipment to transport oversized, overweight, and high‑value cargo with precision and confidence.
Key Responsibilities
  • Operate heavy‑haul trucks and specialized trailers to transport oversized, overweight, and high‑value equipment.
  • Load, secure, and unload machinery, industrial components, and other specialized cargo using chains, binders, straps, and blocking.
  • Read and follow oversize/overweight permits, route surveys, and pilot/escort instructions.
  • Conduct thorough pre‑trip, en‑route, and post‑trip inspections of truck, trailer, and securement equipment.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatch, escort vehicles, customers, and job‑site personnel.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT, state, and local regulations, including weight limits, height/width restrictions, and securement standards.
  • Maintain accurate logs, paperwork, permits, and load documentation.
  • Identify and report mechanical issues; perform minor troubleshooting when necessary.
  • Maintain a clean, organized truck and uphold company safety policies.
  • Work flexible hours, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and extended travel as required both local and distance hauling.
Required Qualifications
  • Valid CDL Class A with a clean driving record.
  • Minimum 2–5 years of experience in heavy haul, specialized transport, or lowboy operations.
  • Proficiency with advanced load securement techniques and rigging equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret permits, route plans, and height/width restrictions.
  • Strong understanding of weight distribution, axle configurations, and trailer types.
  • Ability to pass DOT physical, drug screening, and background checks.
  • Strong communication and customer‑service skills.
Physical Requirements
  • Lift, pull, push, and carry 75–100 lbs regularly (chains, binders, blocking, ramps).
  • Operate manual securement equipment requiring significant upper‑body strength.
  • Climb onto trailers, equipment, and loads up to 6–8 feet high.
  • Perform repetitive bending, kneeling, climbing, and crouching during securement tasks.
  • Stand, walk, and work on uneven terrain for extended periods.
