Job description

Key Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
  • Perform pipe, structural, and general welding using hand-welding, flame-cutting, brazing, soldering, and related equipment.
  • Weld components in flat, vertical, overhead, or combination positions.
  • Read and interpret drawings, sketches, specifications, work orders, and project requirements.
  • Examine workpieces for defects and verify fit-up, alignment, gap allowances, angles, and dimensions.
  • Prepare material surfaces by removing scale, rust, slag, moisture, grease, or other contaminants.
  • Align, clamp, position, and secure workpieces using hand tools, fixtures, jigs, vises, hoists, cranes, wire, or banding equipment.
  • Set up and operate welding equipment, cutting torches, grinders, power tools, and other tools common to the welding trade.
  • Select and install torches, torch tips, filler rods, electrodes, flux, and related consumables based on material type and thickness.
  • Grind, cut, buff, bend, chip, or clean workpieces to ensure proper fit and weld quality.
  • Monitor welding, fitting, burning, and heating processes to prevent warping, overheating, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of materials.
  • Repair fabricated or installed components by cutting, straightening, reshaping, welding, and reassembling parts.
  • Mark or tag materials with job numbers, piece marks, and other identifying information as required.
  • Detect defective materials or faulty equipment operation and notify supervision.
  • Support layout, fit-up, fabrication, and field installation work as assigned.
  • Use ladders, scaffolding, lifts, or other access methods as required to complete work safely.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.

Safety Responsibilities
Safety is a core requirement of this position. Welders must be able to:
  • Operate safety equipment and follow all site safety requirements.
  • Use safe work habits at all times.
  • Follow hot work, fire watch, confined space, and permit-to-work requirements as applicable.
  • Operate a fire extinguisher or charged water hose when required.
  • Monitor work areas for sparks, fire hazards, and changing field conditions.
  • Perform continuous monitoring of work areas with gas detectors or monitors when required.
  • Record gas readings and document results in permit-to-work paperwork when applicable.
  • Monitor wind direction, interpret windsocks, and identify changing safety conditions.
  • Clearly and quickly communicate alarms, warnings, or unsafe conditions to supervision and coworkers.
  • Use fire suppression methods during industrial emergencies when trained and directed.
  • Identify when sparks from grinding or welding may create a hazard and communicate concerns to site supervision.

Qualifications
Qualified candidates should have:
  • 4+ years of welding experience preferred.
  • Experience with pipe welding, structural welding, fabrication, repair, or industrial maintenance work.
  • Ability to pass applicable weld tests and site qualification requirements.
  • Ability to work in an industrial mining environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic drawings, measurements, templates, and specifications.
  • Experience using common welding, cutting, grinding, fitting, and fabrication tools.
  • Ability to work at heights, around equipment, and in field conditions.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work safely as part of a crew and follow supervision.

Preferred Experience
Additional consideration may be given to candidates with experience in:
  • Pipe welding
  • Structural steel welding
  • Stainless steel, aluminum, cast iron, or alloy welding
  • Industrial maintenance welding
  • Mine site work
  • Blueprint reading and layout
  • Fabrication and fit-up
  • Specialty welding processes or certifications
  • Welding inspection, supervision, or leadership experience

Certifications
Welding certifications are preferred and may be required depending on project assignment. Applicable certifications may include:
  • AWS Certified Welder
  • Structural Steel endorsement
  • Certified Welding Inspector, Associate Welding Inspector, or related AWS credentials
  • Other applicable welding, safety, or site-specific certifications

Compensation
Pay is based on experience, certifications, qualifications, weld test results, safety performance, and demonstrated field competency.
Pay Range: $27-$37 per hour
Per Diem: No per diem benefit is available at this time.
