Job description

Job Summary

Troubleshoots, inspects, and maintains electrical and mechanical systems within Corewell including door auto operators, pneumatic tube systems kitchen equipment, dish machines, patient lifts, steam generators, medical gas and suction outlets. Performs safety inspections on current and incoming equipment. Orders the parts, tools and supplies necessary to maintain safety and operating standards. Works with various Corewell departments to ensure repairs are completed on a timely basis with minimal inconvenience. Ensures all repair and maintenance documentation conforms with JC standards. Assist Supervisor, Lead and Mechanic as requested. Carries out all other assigned duties.

Essential Functions
  • Troubleshoots repairs and maintains all mechanical and electrical equipment within Mechanic Sr. realm of responsibility. Repairs and maintains auto doors, hospital beds, dietary equipment, dock equipment, etc. Troubleshoots and repairs electrical control devices, including pneumatic tube system. Repair and maintenance of Medical Gas Outlets, Aspirators, Patient Lifts, Mobility Scooters, and PT/OT Equipment. Tests and troubleshoots electromechanical controls of single phase and three-phase motors and programmable controllers for automation.

  • Performs safety inspections on patient-related electrical equipment and inspects all new electrical equipment. Performs patient area electrical environment safety inspections. Inspects and safety checks all incoming hospital electrical and mechanical equipment. Attends meetings regarding equipment safety procedures and communicates with supervisors, staff and patients. Attends training to stay current with safety procedures and to maintain a high-level of technical knowledge.

  • Orders and maintains parts, supply and tool inventories for maintenance and repair of all related equipment and systems. Gathers information on and generates paperwork for purchase of parts, supplies and tools. Identifies vendors and collects pricing information.

  • Maintains documentation of service and maintenance records according to JC standards. Performs daily documentation of services performed to ensure the database is up-to-date. Completes daily log sheet for time sheets. Maintains documentation essential to equipment operation, including updating operator/service manuals and equipment inspection log.

  • Works with hospital departments to schedule repairs to ensure minimal disruption of hospital functions. Communicates status of jobs to departments, Leader and Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.

  • Uses tools and equipment appropriately. Knows when and how to use tools and equipment to perform the job in an efficient, effective and safe manner. Consistently uses tools and equipment correctly on the job.

  • Maintains and contributes to a safe work environment. Adheres to all safety policies, procedures and practices, including the wearing of protective clothing and gear.

  • Mentor and work with Mechanic.

  • Recommends and advises the replacement of equipment and mechanical systems. Determines and maintains a reasonable inventory of replacement parts and accessories.

  • Is required to be included in the weekend, holiday and shift rotation.

  • Must be able to work reasonable extended hours to accomplish priority repairs and to fill in for disaster, vacation or illness coverage.

Required

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Coursework at Trade school or community college in related field.

  • 3 years of relevant experience

Preferred

  • Associate's Degree. Skilled trade license with related experience would be considered.

  • Experience in a healthcare facility.
