Job description

Are you an HR leader, project manager, or people operations expert ready to build the infrastructure that empowers those who serve? The Veteran Project Manager Mentor Alliance (VPMMA) is seeking a Volunteer Program Manager to serve as a strategic operational leader within our Volunteer Directorate. In this high-impact, pro bono role, you will be the architect of the volunteer experience, ensuring our 100% volunteer workforceโ€”our "Support Staff"โ€”is recruited, retained, and recognized as they transform veteran lives.

By managing the systems that allow our volunteers to thrive, you are practicing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at the core of our organization, helping us maintain a culture of excellence, transparency, and mutual respect.

Your Operational Impact

You will dedicate approximately 5 hours per week to leading critical lifecycle stages for our staff:

  • Recruitment & Intake Oversight: Partner with Digital Recruiters to maintain a steady pipeline of talent, ensuring all candidates align with VPMMA's mission to equip veterans for career greatness.
  • Onboarding & Orientation: Orchestrate the onboarding journey, ensuring every new member receives the Volunteer Handbook and understands our ethical guidelines.
  • Professional Development & Retention: Promote high-value growth opportunities, such as Google Certificates on Coursera, and lead recognition programs like "Volunteer of the Month" to foster fulfillment.
  • Offboarding & Legacy Building: Manage the offboarding process, securing valuable feedback and providing letters of recommendation for significant contributors to support their own career advancement.
  • Process Documentation: Maintain the volunteer knowledge base to ensure continuity and operational efficiency across our remote teams.

Who You Are

We are looking for a principled leader who excels at fostering community in a digital environment:

  • The Organizational Leader: Experience in HR, project management, or volunteer coordination.
  • The Systems Thinker: Proficient in Google Workspace and comfortable leveraging tools like Flowlu to manage complex workflows.
  • The Communicator: Able to collaborate across remote directorates and speak passionately about our mission to support military families.
  • The Coach: Skilled in providing feedback and building a supportive, mission-driven environment.

The Rewards of Strategic Leadership

Volunteering as a Program Manager at VPMMA is a mutually beneficial partnership:

  • Strategic Influence: Work directly with the Director of Volunteers and Chief Volunteer Officer to shape the organization's human capital strategy.
  • Portfolio Growth: Lead the people operations for a recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
  • Network Access: Connect with a diverse community of industry leaders and dedicated advocates.
  • Direct Impact: Play a pivotal role in an organization that has already helped hundreds of veterans successfully transition to civilian project management.

Position Details

  • Type: Volunteer / 100% Remote.
  • Time Commitment: 5 hours per week.
  • Directorate: Volunteers (Human Resources Committee).
  • Reporting Structure: Direct report to the Director of Volunteers (Dr. Tracey Charles).

Ready to lead the team that supports our heroes? Your operational mastery is the foundation upon which our community grows.
