Job description

The AI Engineer will support the International Trade Administration (ITA) Artificial Intelligence Center of Excellence (AI-CoE) by delivering end-to-end artificial intelligence solutions across the full system lifecycle. This role focuses on designing, developing, deploying, optimizing, and integrating AI capabilities within secure, cloud-based federal IT environments. The AI Engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams in Agile and SAFe environments to deliver scalable, reliable, and compliant AI solutions that support mission objectives.
*This position is contingent upon contract award.*
Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, test, and deploy artificial intelligence and machine learning models across the full system lifecycle.
  • Manage data ingestion, preprocessing, validation, and feature engineering to support model development and deployment.
  • Build, deploy, and maintain AI infrastructure, pipelines, and supporting services in secure cloud environments.
  • Optimize model performance, scalability, reliability, and operational efficiency.
  • Automate workflows and integrate AI solutions with enterprise systems and platforms.
  • Monitor AI models in production environments and implement continuous improvements and enhancements.
  • Collaborate with product owners, developers, data engineers, and stakeholders within SAFe Agile delivery environments.
  • Ensure AI solutions align with federal security, compliance, governance, and ethical AI requirements.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, system artifacts, and operational runbooks.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Must possess and maintain a NACI or higher background investigation.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of professional experience supporting AI or machine learning solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience across the AI system lifecycle, including model development and deployment.
  • Proficiency with machine learning frameworks, tools, and programming languages.
  • Experience working in Agile or SAFe delivery environments.

Desired Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a technical field.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Familiarity with MLOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and automation tools.
  • Experience supporting federal or public-sector IT programs.
  • Knowledge of AI governance, ethics, security, and responsible AI best practices.

Work Location
Remote work is preferred, with occasional on-site support in Washington, DC, as required.
