Job Title:  Senior Producer, Nightside - WPXI TV

Position Overview

WPXI Channel 11 News is searching for a bold, forward-thinking Senior Producer who can both serve our audience and help elevate our newsroom.

This is a forward-facing position for someone who sees the big picture and raises the standard of our newscasts. The ideal candidate brings bold ideas to life, supports the execution of standout moments, and encourages producers to think beyond the basics.

This role plays a key part in supporting our leadership team — partnering closely with the Executive Producer and Managing Editor — while also serving as a strong editorial voice in the newsroom. This person must be confident in making real-time decisions and helping steer coverage during breaking news and high-impact events. This is an ideal next step for a seasoned producer who aspires to move into newsroom management.

The Senior Producer will help oversee frontline newscasts, lead breaking coverage, and play a hands-on role in shaping content that reflects Channel 11’s brand and research-based strategy. Collaboration, innovation, and mentorship are central to this role — we’re looking for someone who uplifts others while pushing for journalistic excellence.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Produce assigned newscasts with urgency, creativity, clarity, and impact
  • Lead execution of special projects, breakout coverage, and key show moments
  • Contribute to and guide editorial discussions, helping shape multiplatform coverage
  • Assist in daily editorial meetings and help implement the newsroom’s strategic vision
  • Collaborate with anchors, reporters, producers, and directors on scripting, timing, and story placement
  • Review and edit scripts, teases, and show opens for tone, accuracy, and engagement
  • Work closely with Creative Services and the CMG Hub to create compelling visual content
  • Mentor producers and foster growth within the producing team
  • Integrate station research and branding into content decisions
  • Lead confidently during breaking news, making quick editorial calls with clarity
  • Be available to work a flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • This is an on-site, in-station role in the Channel 11 Newsroom
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field or equivalent experience
  • 3–5 years of newscast producing experience in a local TV newsroom
  • Strong control room skills, with experience stacking and executing high impact shows
  • A track record of supporting and collaborating with newsroom leadership
  • Ability to thrive under pressure and make fast, sound editorial decisions
  • Deep understanding of multiplatform strategy and audience needs
  • Excellent communication skills, critical thinking, and a commitment to quality journalism
  • A professional, team-first attitude and a passion for innovation
