What is a weekend RDA?

Weekend RDAs are Registered Dental Assistants who primarily work on weekends to assist dentists during dental procedures. Their duties typically include preparing patients for treatments, sterilizing instruments, assisting during procedures, taking dental x-rays, and providing post-treatment care instructions. Weekend RDAs help dental offices extend their hours and offer flexibility to patients who may not be able to visit during the week. This role requires completion of a dental assisting program and state certification or registration. Working weekends can be ideal for those seeking part-time hours or supplementing their income.

What are common challenges faced by a weekend RDA, and how can they be managed?

Weekend RDAs often face the challenge of managing a high volume of emergency or last-minute patient appointments, as many patients seek dental care outside of regular weekday hours. This can require quick adaptability, effective communication with both patients and the dental team, and strong organizational skills to maintain smooth workflow. Collaborating closely with dentists and other staff is essential to ensure quality patient care, despite the fast-paced environment. Staying prepared by reviewing patient records ahead of time and maintaining an organized workspace can help RDAs navigate these challenges successfully.

Job description

Our busy dental practice is seeking a personable, motivated dental assistant to join our staff in Butler. We are a PRIVATE, small-group practice that has served the families of Butler and surrounding areas for over 40 years! Responsibilities include operatory set-ups, assisting the dentists chairside with all procedures, taking x-rays, scheduling patients, sterilizing instruments, fabricating temporary crowns and bridges, and helping with a fully digital workflow! We see patients of all ages and do most procedures in the office (including extractions, root canals, implant placement, and Invisalign). Prior experience in the dental field would be desired, along with x-ray certification and knowledge of dental software and digital charting. Our staff is patient and eager to help bring the candidate up to speed during their office training!

We are looking for someone 3 days per week (approximately 27 hours), but there are opportunities to pick up additional days if desired. Our hours are 7:00 - 4:00 every day. No evenings or weekends! Benefits include paid vacation, paid holidays, 401(k) retirement plan, year-end bonuses and scrubs provided.
