What are Weekend RDAs?

Weekend RDAs are Registered Dental Assistants who primarily work on weekends to assist dentists during dental procedures. Their duties typically include preparing patients for treatments, sterilizing instruments, assisting during procedures, taking dental x-rays, and providing post-treatment care instructions. Weekend RDAs help dental offices extend their hours and offer flexibility to patients who may not be able to visit during the week. This role requires completion of a dental assisting program and state certification or registration. Working weekends can be ideal for those seeking part-time hours or supplementing their income.

What are some common challenges faced by a Weekend Registered Dental Assistant (RDA), and how can they be managed?

Weekend RDAs often face the challenge of managing a high volume of emergency or last-minute patient appointments, as many patients seek dental care outside of regular weekday hours. This can require quick adaptability, effective communication with both patients and the dental team, and strong organizational skills to maintain smooth workflow. Collaborating closely with dentists and other staff is essential to ensure quality patient care, despite the fast-paced environment. Staying prepared by reviewing patient records ahead of time and maintaining an organized workspace can help RDAs navigate these challenges successfully.

  •  Team-oriented mindset with a willingness to support others
  •  Comfort with technology and accurate data entry
Schedule

  • Friday: 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM (every other Friday off)
  • Two late evenings per month: 1st & 3rd Tuesdays, 1:00 PM – 7:00 PM (during the school year)
  • No weekends
Team members arrive prior to patient hours and stay until daily responsibilities are complete. We offer a consistent, predictable schedule with built-in time off, allowing for strong work-life balance.
