Under the direct supervision of the Groundskeeper Foreperson, the Groundskeeper is directed to perform a variety of basic park maintenance tasks. $15/hour, seasonal position, no benefits

  • Performs general building maintenance such as roof repair, windows and doors, etc.
  • Removes all garbage from all parks and playground areas.
  • Mows turf in all parks with tractors and hand mowers.
  • Helps in growing new turf by seeding and performing general turf maintenance.
  • Performs general landscaping such as planting flowers, trimming trees and shrubs.
  • Paints picnic tables, benches, buildings, and playground equipment.
  • Removes snow from parking lots, sidewalks, and ice-skating areas.
  • Completes general cleaning within all park facilities.
  • Assists the Park District's Mechanic.
  • Performs general preventative maintenance on equipment such as oil changes.
  • Attends educational programs as required.
  • Reports all unsafe conditions to Foreperson.
  • Performs other similar related park maintenance duties as required or assigned.
  • It is the responsibility of every employee to observe and follow all Park District safety policies and regulations. The safety of staff and participants is a continuing responsibility of all employees.


Requirements:
  • High school diploma
  • Must have valid IL driver's license.
  • 2 years of experience in ground care.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, reach, lift, twist.
  • Ability to walk and bend for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and move bags of material such as concrete mix up to 80lbs.
  • Ability to climb ladders and reach to perform work such as painting.
  • Ability to sustain repeated hand and arm movements for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to operate on-road motor vehicles when necessary.
