As an Asphalt Equipment Operator, you’ll work at the forefront of groundwork and construction, using advanced machines to build roads and infrastructure that connect communities. You’ll operate a variety of equipment, including but not limited to:

  • Grade and Pave Crew Equipment

Key Responsibilities
  • Expertly control the material flow and depth during paving operations.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of all aspects of the paving process: prepping surfaces, establishing grades, ensuring proper drainage, and setting paving patterns.
  • Manage paving machines to achieve smooth, consistent asphalt placement and operate additional machines for curbing, spreading, and finishing.
  • Perform routine equipment servicing, minor maintenance, and promptly report major issues.
  • Drive and operate curbing machines, backhoes, loaders, dump trucks, and snow plows.
  • Install and adjust dies, cutters, and screeds as needed for project requirements.
  • Inspect, clean, and maintain equipment, using mechanic’s hand tools, and coordinate with supervisors for repairs.
  • Coordinate the flow of truck dumping, shovel blacktop, and help control jobsite traffic.
  • Set up and dismantle equipment and ensure a safe work environment for yourself and others.
  • Consistently demonstrate attendance and reliability at assigned shifts.
  • Take on other tasks as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the team.
What You Bring
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant equipment operation or construction experience; 3 years of road construction experience preferred.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Valid driver’s license meeting state requirements (CDL Class A and/or B, with possible hazmat and tanker endorsements).
  • Ability to pass pre-employment physical, drug screening, and background check.
  • Commitment to safety and compliance with all OSHA/MSHA regulations and company policies.
  • Professional, courteous attitude toward colleagues and the public.
  • Willingness to travel, work overtime, nights, weekends, and stay overnight when required.
  • Personal protective equipment required in designated work areas (face shield, safety shoes, coveralls).
Knowledge & Skills
  • Understanding of aggregate sizes and classifications.
  • Knowledge of trenching and shoring standards.
  • Proficiency in operating heavy and complex equipment safely and efficiently under various conditions.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Keen attention to detail and the exercise of sound judgment on the job site.
 
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
·       Frequently required to climb, balance, and perform tasks involving physical agility.
·       Regularly sit, climb, and use hand signals or equipment; occasionally stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, stoop, crouch, or reach above shoulder height.
·       Lift and move objects weighing up to 25-50 lbs as needed.
·       Work primarily outdoors, often in extreme weather and environmental conditions.
·       Comfortable working in all weather conditions; exposed to jobsite hazards such as moving machinery, high places, airborne particles, and loud environments.
·       Must have specific vision abilities, including close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, to operate equipment safely.
