Job description

Radiology Interventional Technologist

Under the direction of a Radiologist, this role specializes in performing procedures of an invasive nature to aid in the evaluation of pathological entities as prescribed by a physician. Explains examination procedures to patients and prepares them for the examination. Obtains additional information about the patient's medical history as necessary. Prepares prescribed contrast media, medications, and IV solutions for administration to patients. Reviews clinical data on requisitions, analyzes the anatomical structure of patients, sets up equipment, and assists the Radiologist in performing complex diagnostic invasive procedures, following protocols. Prepares and sets up sterile equipment, physiological monitors, pressure injectors, and imaging equipment required for the procedure. Ensures that adequate supplies such as needles and catheters are on hand and properly stored. Replenishes supplies as appropriate. Is part of the team that actively assesses patient conditions before, during, and following all procedures. Manually controls the equipment to obtain the proper diagnostic information for the area of the body being studied. May assist with the training of new personnel and/or students assigned to the division. Performs all imaging procedures by demonstrating the principles of radiation protection. This may involve shielding patients, selecting appropriate equipment settings to reduce dose, and using other ALARA techniques. Resolves any and all image exceptions and ensures high-quality image delivery into PACS, including viewing images and confirming image/series counts. Completes all study indexing in the Radiology Information System, including study begin, study end, and the completion of the study. Reviews and confirms clinical protocols with the Radiologist before performing a study. Demonstrates Team Member Standards of Excellence consistently, including open communication, responding in a timely manner, displaying a positive attitude, fostering innovation, and respecting diversity. Performs Quality Assurance procedures as appropriate. Documents in the medical record as necessary, as well as within the Radiology Information System to support all clinical and billing functions. Performs related functions according to department protocols. Utilizes independent judgment in determining appropriate imaging techniques, patient positioning, and safety practices.
