What are Weekend Project Managers?

Weekend Project Managers are professionals who oversee projects and coordinate teams specifically during weekends. Their responsibilities typically include planning, executing, and closing projects, ensuring deadlines are met, and managing any issues that arise outside of regular weekday hours. This role is important for organizations that operate or require project progress over the weekend, such as event planning, construction, IT maintenance, or retail. Weekend Project Managers use the same project management skills as their weekday counterparts but must also be adaptable to unique weekend challenges, such as limited resources or fewer team members on-site.

How does the work schedule and team collaboration differ for a Weekend Project Manager compared to traditional weekday project management roles?

As a Weekend Project Manager, you'll typically oversee projects that require leadership and coordination outside standard business hours, such as during weekends or holidays. This often means working with teams on staggered or rotating schedules, coordinating handoffs with weekday managers, and ensuring clear communication across all shifts. You'll need to quickly address issues that arise when other departments may have limited availability. Proactive planning and strong documentation skills are essential to maintain project momentum and align all stakeholders.

Will PMP be replaced by AI?

The Project Management Professional (PMP) certification remains a widely recognized credential for project managers, including those in roles like Weekend Project Manager. While AI tools can assist with project planning and data analysis, they are unlikely to fully replace the need for human oversight, leadership, and decision-making skills that PMP-certified professionals bring to projects.

Job description

About Company:

Kundlas Consulting Group LLC is a professional consulting firm specializing in construction inspection and compliance services for public infrastructure projects. Our core services include on-site inspection of roadway, bridge, and utility construction to ensure adherence to engineering specifications, safety standards, and contract requirements. We support clients with daily reporting, materials testing coordination, schedule tracking, and quality assurance oversight. Additional services include project management, grants management for federally funded infrastructure and disaster recovery programs.

About the Role:

The Project Manager will support the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) READI contract by leading task orders, coordinating rapid-response Architectural-Engineering (A-E) teams, managing scope, schedule, and cost performance, and serving as the primary interface between the Contractor and USACE. This role is responsible for overseeing the successful execution of emergency response, disaster recovery, infrastructure restoration, and resiliency projects throughout the project lifecycle.

The Project Manager will provide leadership and direction to multidisciplinary teams of architects, engineers, environmental professionals, planners, and technical specialists while ensuring project deliverables meet contract requirements, quality standards, budget constraints, and schedule commitments. The position requires strong technical management expertise, stakeholder engagement capabilities, and experience supporting federal emergency management and recovery operations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or Registered Architect (RA) in the United States.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience managing disaster response, emergency management, infrastructure recovery, or Architectural-Engineering (A-E) projects.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multidisciplinary engineering, architectural, environmental, and technical project teams.
  • Experience overseeing project scope, schedule, budget, quality control, risk management, and contract compliance activities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Project and other project management software applications.
  • Strong knowledge of federal contracting practices, A-E project delivery processes, and quality management requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience coordinating with government agencies, contractors, and technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent project management credential.
  • Experience supporting USACE, FEMA, DoD, GSA, NAVFAC, or other federal disaster response and infrastructure recovery programs.
  • Experience managing multiple simultaneous task orders under Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contracts.
  • Familiarity with Design-Build and Design-Bid-Build project delivery methods.
  • Knowledge of emergency management principles, continuity of operations planning, and disaster recovery programs.
  • Experience managing geographically dispersed teams and rapid-response deployments.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead READI task orders supporting emergency response, disaster recovery, infrastructure restoration, and resiliency initiatives.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact and interface between the Contractor and USACE representatives.
  • Coordinate rapid-response A-E teams and technical specialists to support time-sensitive project requirements.
  • Develop, maintain, and manage project scope, schedules, budgets, staffing plans, and resource allocations.
  • Monitor project performance and implement corrective actions to ensure compliance with contract requirements and project objectives.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams including architects, engineers, environmental professionals, planners, quality control personnel, and subcontractors.
  • Manage project communications, status reporting, risk management activities, and stakeholder engagement efforts.
  • Oversee project documentation, deliverable tracking, quality assurance processes, and contract compliance requirements.
  • Facilitate project meetings, technical reviews, and coordination sessions with USACE personnel and project stakeholders.
  • Support proposal development, task order planning, cost estimating, and project execution strategies as required.
  • Ensure timely delivery of technical reports, engineering studies, designs, specifications, and other contract deliverables.
  • Participate in emergency response and recovery activities, including rapid deployment and support of mission-critical operations when required.

Skills:

The ideal candidate must possess strong project management expertise in leading multidisciplinary Architectural-Engineering teams supporting emergency response, disaster recovery, and infrastructure restoration programs. Extensive experience managing project scope, schedules, budgets, staffing resources, risk management activities, and contract compliance is essential for successful task order execution. The candidate should demonstrate exceptional leadership, organizational, and decision-making abilities to effectively coordinate technical teams operating under compressed schedules and rapidly changing conditions. Proficiency in Microsoft Project and related project management systems is required to support planning, scheduling, resource allocation, and performance tracking. Strong knowledge of federal contracting practices, A-E project delivery processes, quality management procedures, and government stakeholder engagement is critical for supporting USACE mission requirements. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary for preparing project documentation, leading coordination meetings, resolving issues, and maintaining effective communication with USACE representatives, subcontractors, and project stakeholders. The ability to manage multiple concurrent projects, support rapid-response deployments, and deliver high-quality results under demanding operational conditions is essential for successful performance under the USACE READI contract.
