Weekend Private Equity Analyst information

What is a weekend private equity analyst?

Weekend Private Equity Analysts are individuals, often students or early-career professionals, who work part-time—typically on weekends—with private equity firms. Their responsibilities include conducting financial analysis, market research, preparing investment presentations, and supporting due diligence processes for potential acquisitions. This position allows individuals to gain hands-on experience in private equity while balancing other commitments such as school or a full-time job. Weekend analysts often use this role as a stepping stone to full-time analyst or associate positions in the industry.

What are the typical responsibilities and expectations for a weekend private equity analyst, and how does the part-time nature impact workflow and collaboration?

As a Weekend Private Equity Analyst, your primary responsibilities will include conducting due diligence, performing financial modeling, and preparing investment memos, typically on a project or deal-by-deal basis. The part-time, weekend schedule means you'll often work independently but will need to coordinate closely with full-time analysts and associates during the week to stay aligned with ongoing deals and deadlines. Strong communication skills and proactive time management are essential, as you'll be expected to deliver high-quality work within tighter timeframes and potentially with less supervision. This structure can offer valuable exposure to live deals and senior decision-makers, providing a solid foundation for future advancement in private equity or related finance roles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a weekend private equity analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Weekend Private Equity Analyst, you need strong analytical abilities, financial modeling skills, and a solid understanding of accounting and investment principles, often supported by a degree in finance, economics, or a related field. Familiarity with Excel, PowerPoint, financial databases (like Bloomberg or Capital IQ), and potentially CFA certification is highly valuable. Exceptional attention to detail, time management, and effective communication help analysts excel in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with tight deadlines. These competencies are crucial for producing accurate investment analysis and supporting successful deal execution in private equity firms.

Job Description

Join a collaborative investment team where your research will directly influence portfolio decisions and advisor outcomes. As an Energy & Materials Equity Analyst, you will conduct fundamental research across industries such as oil and gas, energy services, chemicals, metals and mining, packaging, and construction materials, including financial modeling, earnings analysis, valuation, and assessment of commodity markets, industry fundamentals, and competitive trends. You will deliver actionable investment recommendations, support portfolio construction, and help strengthen the firm's growing separately managed account platform. This role offers the opportunity to combine analytical insight, sound investment judgment, and cross-functional collaboration while developing deep expertise across the energy and materials sectors and the broader investment organization.

How you'll spend your time...
Conduct in-depth fundamental research on assigned sectors, industries, and companies, including financial analysis, valuation, earnings assessment, competitive positioning, and investment thesis development.

Build and maintain financial models, forecasts, price targets, risk assessments, and investment recommendations that support portfolio construction and security selection decisions.

Partner with portfolio managers and investment leadership to provide timely insights on portfolio holdings, candidate investments, benchmark performance, and recommended portfolio changes.

Develop high-quality research reports, earnings updates, sector commentary, thematic publications, and presentations for internal stakeholders and advisors.

Support advisor engagement activities, educational events, webinars, and due diligence discussions by translating complex analysis into clear and actionable investment perspectives.

Maintain strong documentation, governance, and compliance practices across all research activities and investment recommendations.
To be successful in this role you will have...
7+ years of experience in equity research in the energy and materials sectors, investment analysis, asset management, or a related investment function, with demonstrated expertise in fundamental company and sector analysis.

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business, or a related field; Master of Business Administration, Chartered Financial Analyst designation, or advanced degree preferred.

Applicable securities licenses or registrations, or the ability to obtain required licensing within an established timeframe.

Strong financial modeling, valuation, scenario analysis, and investment recommendation capabilities, including the development of buy, hold, and sell theses.

Experience within buy-side, sell-side, registered investment advisor, separately managed account, or institutional investment environments is preferred.

Excellent communication, collaboration, and influencing skills, with the ability to present complex investment views to portfolio managers, advisors, and senior stakeholders.

U.S. Work Authorization & Sponsorship

Applicants must have a valid work authorization that does not now, or in the future, require visa sponsorship for employment in the United States (e.g., H-1B, F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, TN).

In-Office Collaboration

We are a client-centric, relationship-based business. Working together, in-person, is foundational to how we achieve results. By fostering a culture of face-to-face collaboration, idea sharing, productivity and personal connection, we deliver for our stakeholders, clients, advisors, employees and shareholders. Our employees work in the office at least four (4) days per week, with flexibility to work from home one (1) day per week. Some roles may require additional in-office time or different in-office expectations, and specific requirements will be discussed during the hiring process.

Base Pay Salary

The estimated base salary for this role is $158,000 - $237,000 / year. We have a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy. Your initial total compensation may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographical work location. In addition, most of our roles are eligible for variable pay in the form of bonus, commissions, and/or long-term incentives depending on the role.
