Weekend Print Graphic Designer information

What is a weekend print graphic designer?

Weekend Print Graphic Designers are creative professionals who specialize in designing printed materials, such as flyers, brochures, posters, and advertisements, specifically for projects that require work over the weekend. They use graphic design software to create visually appealing layouts that convey messages effectively and adhere to brand guidelines. These designers often work with tight deadlines and collaborate with clients or teams to deliver high-quality print-ready designs for events, promotions, or publications scheduled over the weekend.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a weekend print graphic designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Weekend Print Graphic Designer, you need a solid grasp of design principles, typography, and layout, supported by a degree or coursework in graphic design. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) and familiarity with print production processes are typically required. Strong time management, creativity, and the ability to work independently under tight deadlines help set top designers apart. These skills ensure high-quality, visually appealing print materials are delivered efficiently, even during weekend shifts when resources may be limited.

What is the difference between Weekend Print Graphic Designer vs Part-Time Print Graphic Designer?

AspectWeekend Print Graphic DesignerPart-Time Print Graphic Designer
CredentialsTypically requires a graphic design degree or certificationSame as Weekend Print Graphic Designer
Work EnvironmentDesign studios, print shops, or freelance settings, mainly during weekendsSimilar environments, with flexible hours including weekdays or weekends
Employer UsageUsed by print companies, marketing agencies, or freelance clients for weekend projectsUsed by similar employers for flexible scheduling

Both roles involve creating print designs and often require similar skills and credentials. The main difference is that Weekend Print Graphic Designers primarily work during weekends, while Part-Time Print Graphic Designers may have flexible schedules that include weekdays or weekends. The choice depends on the employer's needs and the designer's availability.

What are some unique challenges faced by weekend print graphic designers compared to weekday roles?

Weekend Print Graphic Designers often work with tighter deadlines, as projects may need to be completed for Monday distribution or early-week publications. This can require quick turnaround times and strong communication with editors, clients, or production teams who may also be working limited weekend hours. Additionally, these designers may work more independently, as fewer team members are available for collaboration, making strong self-management and problem-solving skills essential for success.

We work with a dynamic and interesting client base. With the tools and technologies provided, we focus on putting our energy towards creating a remarkably unparalleled experience for each and every customer. Customer experience is our key focus, meaning we deliver an affordable, high-quality product on time (if not early), and prioritize clear communication within the team and with our clients.

You will be working on print output activities associated with the Print business. You will have the opportunity to lend your keen eye to improve quality and creative style. Our Prepress Graphics department works closely with clients and our sales team, providing support with the goal of increasing sales and customer satisfaction. We do everything from business cards to vehicle graphics, apparel, promos, direct mail, packaging, and signage. We want our entire team to understand and be able to produce the print project, whether it is a banner, booklets, or a T-shirt. We show you how the equipment works and why items are designed to optimize the outcome of the finished product. You will work directly with the client to create a marketing campaign that best suits their business plan and goals. Understanding design for print is crucial, and you will work closely with the client to improve their brand identity. We will take the time to train you and are looking for someone who wants a long-term home where they can develop their skills and relationships.
Responsibility Overview:
  • Perform production requirements in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Must have CS Graphics Experience
  • Meet with clients via phone, in person, or on Zoom to discuss their project needs and develop a strong marketing campaign. This may also require quoting certain options and following up with the client.
  • Develop strong relationships with vendors and suppliers to get the best product options, quality, and price for clients.
  • Offer graphic design ideas, solutions, and alternatives based on customer input.
  • Schedule all work to meet customer time frame requirements. Monitor deadlines and report conflicts to management to establish priorities BEFORE the jobs are due.
  • Become proficient in the current technology for creating graphics, documents, and digital files, utilizing existing equipment and materials. A hunger for learning is a key component to success in this industry. There are always new technologies and products/ materials being developed, and we are the local print experts who bring these advancements to our clients.
  • Become proficient in various production techniques that we will train you on. For instance, using our digital printers, plotters, and laminators. Understand how to properly heat-press shirts, bags, and hats for lasting use. Keep equipment clean and maintained for best output. Understand various media and materials for proper output and product use.
  • Perform regular computer backups and archive customer files for safekeeping and easy retrieval.

Skills we are looking for:
  • Two years' education in graphic design, 5 years' practical experience within the print or sign industry.
  • Working understanding of the dual platform, applications, such as Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop.
  • Knowledge of PDF and PostScript files and PDF plug-ins.
  • High-level understanding of Excellent Customer Service and Satisfaction.
  • A cheerful disposition. You should enjoy people and building relationships. It is important to have an overall positive outlook on life and love your work on a daily basis.

Compensation: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
