Position Overview:

KGWN-TV is looking for a dependable and detail-oriented Director / Master Control Operator to join our team. This dual-role position is responsible for directing live newscasts and other station productions, while also monitoring and controlling on-air content through our Master Control systems.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Director:

  • Direct and switch live newscasts and recorded productions using broadcast automation systems.
  • Collaborate with producers, anchors, and technical staff to execute clean, smooth broadcasts.
  • Load graphics, roll video, cue audio, and ensure technical readiness before each show.
  • Troubleshoot issues in real time during live broadcasts.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and technical accuracy.

As a Master Control Operator:

  • Monitor and maintain the station's on-air signal, ensuring quality and compliance.
  • Operate automation systems to manage commercial breaks, program content, and live events.
  • Ingest and prep programs, commercials, and promos for playback.
  • Ensure daily logs are executed correctly and report any discrepancies.
  • Perform regular checks and immediate troubleshooting for technical issues.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in live directing and/or master control strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of broadcast automation systems (e.g., Ross Overdrive, WideOrbit, etc.).
  • Ability to stay calm under pressure, especially during live broadcasts.
  • Strong attention to detail and time management skills.
  • Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; relevant technical training or degree preferred.
