What is a weekend pilot car?

Weekend pilot cars are vehicles and drivers that escort oversized loads on highways, typically during weekends when road traffic may be lighter. Their main role is to ensure the safety of the load, the transporting vehicle, and other road users by warning of hazards, managing traffic, and helping the truck navigate difficult routes. These pilots are often required for loads that exceed legal size limits, and regulations for their use may vary by state or region. Weekend pilot car drivers must be familiar with relevant laws, possess appropriate certifications, and be prepared to work irregular hours, including weekends and holidays.
