Position Description
SUMMARY
As a Pile Driver, the position is responsible for providing direct project support for Russell Marine LLC. The Pile Driver will be responsible for performing several marine construction duties such as, but not limited to, assisting with assembly and disassembly of cranes and/or barges and tasks required during marine and upland piledriving activities.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist in unloading and assembling cranes or other hoisting equipment for pile-driving activities, including fueling, lubricating, and maintaining the pile-driving hammer.
  • Unload and assemble pile driving hammers and leads in addition to various types of piling - concrete, pipe, H-piling, timber, and steel sheet piling.
  • Perform site preparation for installation of various concrete and wood structures; prepare the piling to be driven and assist in positioning and driving the piling.
  • Assist and work with the Crane Operator to maneuver and position loads safely.
  • Operate a variety of hand and power tools safely and effectively to minimize the risk of injury, property damage, or loss of life, including oxygen/acetylene welding torch to cut steel plates, pipes, beams, etc., pneumatic power tools - drills, countersinks, and tuggers - as required, and/or gasoline chain saw to cut timbers and timber piling.
  • Dress and cap the pilings after driving and preparing them to receive the superstructure.
  • Assist during pile driving operations including, but not limited to, fabrication and installation of pile template and falsework, lofting and tripping of the pile to be driven, engagement of pile hammer onto the pile, pile advancement during pile driving, and disassembly of above-mentioned falsework and templates.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Position Requirements
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education: Must possess a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) or be eligible/willing to obtain one upon hire.
  • Experience: Two (2) years of experience in pile driving and/or crane rigging/operations experience on land and barges.
  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA): General knowledge of the basic functions & operations of various types of pile hammers - diesel, hydraulic, and drop hammers. General knowledge of construction rigging, including the use of slings, cable chokers, spreader bars, multi-part load blocks, etc. Ability to perform work at elevated heights, including on man-lifts and scaffolds. Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills in English to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, and customers.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Certification(s): OSHA Rigger & Signalman training. Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) certification.
  • Experience: 500+ hours of operating on dedicated pile. SMAW/stick welding experience.
  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA): General knowledge of Marine or Railroad construction terminology. Ability to cut using a variety of cutting methods such as oxygen acetylene and/or cold cutting tools. Ability to weld in 3G, 4G, or 6G positions.

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • The individual must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.
  • The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes a hard hat, safety glasses, life vest, respirators, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes, personal floatation devices (PFD), and/or other protective equipment.
  • The individual frequently works near moving mechanical parts and must be able to adapt to temperature changes, outdoor conditions, and prolonged exposure to dusty, wet, or humid conditions, loud noises, and vibration.
  • The individual may be required to work long hours and/or weekends. Additionally, some out-of-town or overnight travel may be required.
  • The individual may be required to walk, step, climb, or otherwise move from one location on the job site to another, which may be of varying heights and access parameters.
  • The individual may occasionally be required to stand, stoop, bend, crouch, kneel, climb, or sit for long periods.
  • The individual may be required to work in confined spaces, climb vertical ladders of a height of 6 ft. or greater, and/or elevated heights.
  • The individual may be required to lift objects with a minimum of 10 lbs. and a maximum single-person lift of 50 lbs. This could result in frequent lifting or carrying depending on project needs.
