Job description

Overview & Responsibilities
Overview & Responsibilities
The Big Picture
Do you like working with high-stakes systems, extreme temperatures, and precision equipment? As a Cryogenic Test Stand Operator, you'll play a critical role in factory acceptance testing-installing, removing, and operating pumps, expanders, and test auxiliaries. You'll work alongside test engineers to bring complex systems to life and prove they're ready for the field. If you're hands-on, safety-conscious, and comfortable with everything from piping to payload cranes, this is the role for you.
What You'll Do Day-to-Day
Setup & Installation
  • Load and unload pumps from shipping trucks
  • Build piping and supports from blueprints and test forms
  • Mount pumps to adaptors and head plates
  • Mount instrumentation to pumps and secure with lock wire
  • Make mechanical and simple electrical connections
  • Install and remove various types of insulation
  • Erect and assemble scaffolding and planking
  • Uncrate and crate pumps being shipped between facilities
Cryogenic System Operations
  • Operate test systems including:
    • Pressure build coils
    • Flare controls
    • Liquid transfers to and from storage tanks
    • VFD drives (startup and shutdown)
    • Manual test valves as instructed
    • Liquid transfer pumps
  • Monitor and record liquid delivery to storage tanks
  • Pull liquid samples from test loops for specific gravity (SG) readings
  • Monitor test loops and systems for leaks; report and correct as directed
Testing & Quality
  • Complete operational checklists and maintain installation records
  • Record test data on designated forms
  • Conduct hydrostatic testing on new and repaired piping as required
  • Conduct loop pressure integrity tests
  • Conduct megger testing of electrical connections
  • Disassemble vibration sensors and test instrumentation; return to instrument technician for post-test checks
Material Handling & Rigging
  • Rig and operate 25-ton overhead crane
  • Use hoists, unlimited pendant, overhead crane(s), forklifts, work savers, scissor lifts, and aerial lifts
  • Transport materials and equipment via truck between manufacturing and cryo facilities
Maintenance & Inventory
  • Maintain test adaptors, pipe, bolting, and valve inventory
  • Use taps and dies to clean threads on bolting and blind holes
  • Remove and clean in-line heat exchangers as instructed
  • Maintain and operate fire protection equipment
  • Log replenishment, servicing, and turnover in logs
Safety & Housekeeping
  • Maintain good housekeeping-keep tools, materials, and equipment in proper places
  • Report defective material and equipment to supervision
  • Observe all safety rules
  • Conduct confined space entry as needed
Documentation & Communication
  • Report production counts, time, and identifying data using data collection machines
  • Receive instruction from supervision
  • Follow well-defined operational instructions
A Note on This Role
The above reflects the general details needed to describe the principal functions of this job. It's not an exhaustive list of every task you might do-because cryogenic testing is complex, and every test loop can bring something new.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be able and willing to work 1st (7am-3pm), 2nd (3pm-11pm), and 3rd (11pm-7am) shifts. Shifts are not guaranteed and are subject to realignment.
  • Must be able and willing to work overtime, weekends, and holidays.
