Job description

Position Summary

The Manufacturing Engineer develops and sustains practical manufacturing methods for printed circuit board assemblies and related electronic products. This role supports NPI, production readiness, SMT programming support, routings and work instructions, cycle-time improvement, MRB support, and day-to-day factory execution in a high-mix manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review customer BOMs, drawings, and CAD or Gerber data to identify errors, manufacturability concerns, and production-readiness requirements.
  • Develop or support SMT pick-and-place programs, NPI routings, labor plans, and work instructions for efficient product launch and stable production execution.
  • Create, update, and maintain production routings, work instructions, and quality collection steps in ERP and related factory systems.
  • Coordinate process readiness, material flow, tooling needs, oven profiles, inspection steps, and line setup requirements for new and released jobs.
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing issues affecting quality, throughput, and delivery, including solder-related issues, setup errors, machine problems, and execution gaps.
  • Analyze cycle times, line balance, and throughput data to reduce bottlenecks and improve labor efficiency and on-time delivery.
  • Support MRB or nonconforming-material review with Quality using IPC and J-STD workmanship expectations where applicable.
  • Interface effectively with customers and internal teams to resolve documentation gaps, engineering changes, process questions, and execution issues.
  • Support rework, stencil needs, special process requirements, and continuous-improvement efforts that reduce defects, rework, lead time, and cost.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field preferred; equivalent practical manufacturing-engineering experience is considered.
  • Minimum 3-7 years of experience in PCB assembly, SMT manufacturing, NPI, manufacturing engineering, or process engineering in a high-mix or high-reliability environment preferred.
  • Working knowledge of SMT process flow, BOM review, routings, work instructions, line balancing, solder-process support, MRB/NCR activity, ERP systems, and continuous-improvement methods.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and move throughout the manufacturing floor as needed.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move items up to 35 pounds and support occasional off-shift or weekend production needs.
