About the Job
General Summary of Position
Oversees all aspects of Pharmacy activity required to support clinical research for MedStar Health Research Institute. Serves as liaison between Medical Staff Research Coordinators Study Monitors Sponsors and Pharmacy personnel. Ensures compliance with applicable local state and federal regulations involving regulations involving the handling and use of investigational drugs.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Acts as a liaison to medical staff research coordinators study monitors sponsors and other MedStar research personnel.
  • Assists in the cataloging and storage of research pharmacy records for terminated or closeted studies in compliance with Federal and international regulations.
  • Assists in the development of computer programs and other aids to monitor and improve the Research Pharmacy Program and aids other support personnel.
  • Assists in the preparation and delivery of educational information regarding new research studies.
  • Assists in the preparation and distribution of monthly invoices for research pharmacy activity.
  • Assists in the preparation of guidelines for the proper preparation and handling of research medications based on study protocols and related materials.
  • Performs and maintains records of monthly investigational drug inventory.
  • Prepares doses of oral and parenteral study drug medication under the supervision of a Pharmacist and in accordance with study guidelines.
  • Provides information and assistance to Washington Hospital Center (WHC) Pharmacy Staff regarding investigational drugs.
  • Provides off-hours and weekend service if required in support of investigational therapies being administered to NIA patients.
  • Updates and maintains computer databases of study related activities.
  • Updates and maintains records of the receipt dispensing storage and return or destruction of study related materials in accordance with Federal local and hospital regulations.
  • Updates and maintains required logs and records.

Minimal Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in a basic science required

Experience
  • 1-2 years Experience in pharmacy research or laboratory setting. Excellent oral and written communication skills required

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Familiarity with Word Processing and Database Management Computer Programs.
  • Ability to function in a highly structured detail oriented environment.
